jamyskis: If Capcom don't care about DD in Japan, it's because DD has flopped massively there and the PC as a gaming platform is a non-issue anyway.
To sell in Japan, Capcom JP must authorise it. GOG only sell worldwide, so if they want to sell Capcom games, they must have Capcom JP's permission to sell in Japan.
DD never flopped in Japan. It never got support from the start; just like physical retail. Capcom, etc., are happy to put out their games on PC via retail, but most stores (with the exception of some PC hardware stores and electronic stores which drastically inflate prices) refuse to stock them.
Capcom, like most publishers here, don't have any interest in supporting the PC via DD despite it being the only channel which won't actively refuse to stock their products. Which leaves the growing number of Japan based PC gamers no alternative but to import.
But all of that's kinda irrelevant. Simple point is, GOG currently only release worldwide with one price for all (with the only exception being Witcher 2, which is still sold worldwide, but at different price points). So unless GOG dump their worldwide availability stance, the number of products from Japanese publishers is going to be very very few.
So now the refusal of a Japanese publisher to support their own market could certainly affect other regions even if the local arm of the publisher gives GOG permission to sell in those regions.
OneFodderUnit: I wouldn't mind seeing those Japanese schmups Capcom published on Steam recently. The eXceed collection , Satazius , and Ether Vapor Remaster.
Not going to see them. Capcom JP are actively refusing to allow their sale in Japan. Even Nyu-media have been unsuccessful in changing their mind and they jointly hold worldwide distribution rights.
As I said in my previous post, I'd love to see GOG find a legal way around this which doesn't involve regional restrictions, but if they are going to be relying on Capcom JP saying, yes; it ain't gonna happen.
