I know what would happen with the pirated copy: It will work just fine and the ball kicking code will be removed and legitimate customers laughed at, just like all all pirated games. DRM only hurts legitimate customers.

DRM doesn't make sense.

I like to imagine DRM in other products. For a STEAM-like application, imagine if all of your utilities required a constant connection to the website.

I bought games (when I played with consoles) and I buy those now.. Only because things with this community. And those fallouts were cheap.

i guess pirates dont have a problem with that kind of drm, only used buyers right?
so capcom basically says if you pirate games its ok, but if you buy used games you are a pi*ce of sh*t

why not? publishers already did all the wrong things, people buy games that are completely unfinished, unplayable because of drm, leave out a lot of essential content on purpose, and whatever idea you have to treat the customer bad as hell, it was already done

so everybody who buys Mercenaries is responsible for more crap that customers have to deal with

I think this was brought up before. Second hand sales are killing the big guys here. There are trying to think up ways to stop or curb the trend. What they should be doing is tapping this market by being an official outlet of handling second hand sales or sponsor the shops thus taking their fair share or funds when a game gets sold. Hell just allow us the buyers to either buy the game when it's new or used. At least there are people buying the game. For those who do not wish to own but just play. Have a rent option like a normal video store does. The only difference is that the proper companies and Devs are still getting something for their work. May not be as much as if it were new but something is better than nothing, eh?

These nut jobs and bean counters should be taken to the back of an alley, be shown what type of gun will be used on them if they don't stop this madness.

This has got to be something thought up by business execs or marketing people instead of gamers. This will be epic fail in the making and it will be Lol.

Dunno where people are getting the idea that this is about killing second hand game sales, Capcom themselves say its not and why would they lie?

I don't know if this really merits the crown as worst DRM as it really only aims to spoil some of the fun of a second hand buyer( or 1st owner that likes restarting). Its obnoxious and petty but are worse things out there.

I don't however buy the "second hand sales were not a factor," nonsense. VG companies would love to finally curb such sales IF they could find a legal way of denying people's right to resale.

They may well get their wish next generation if Microsoft and/or Sony make Steam-style activation standard, with the disc only offering lesser functionality without the single-use code. EA Sports games already do this for multiplayer functionality.
