I know, Ultima Underworld is on GOG now, and seeing any Origins game on GOG gave me great hope (as well as made me gasp in surprise). Some games, however, apparently could be on GOG for years now and never came (I suppose if they could bring Fallout, they could bring Wasteland too for example, or the Larry games along with all other Sierra adventures). They chose to start the EA era with great picks like Dungeon Keeper and Wing Commander, but of all Ultima games, I was very sure they'd pick the regular series first (I think I remember Ultima IV given away for free years ago too -- not here on GOG of course).

So, do you think they picked Ultima Underworld first as a marketing strategy and should release other Ultimas later, or do you have reason to believe the other Ultima games are trapped in intellectual property limbo like System Shock?

I already made a thread about this in the UU forums.

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/ultima_underworld/does_this_mean_they_have_the_rights_to_all_the_ultima_games

There are some answers about the copyrights.

I think it's safe to say: No one knows for sure.

This is getting creepy.
The same day EA got added to GOG, they also released Ultima IV for free at http://www.ultimaforever.com/
They're doing something with Ultima in the near future. My bet's on a new MMO or something.

Probably a free to play something or other, surely. I mean you never know, but given the Ultima name is mostly appealing on the PC and corporations view free to play and MMOs as the only way to make a PC exclusive and profit from it, I would assume that is what we are getting.

What I wonder is why is there the Bioware logo on this site...

Bioware has morphed into EA's RPG division.

I thought it might be because Mythic Entertainment, who currently run Ultima Online, was renamed Bioware Mythic. But the Bioware logo links to Bioware proper, not to Mythic...
If Ultima Online, the ancient MMO was released here on GOG it'd be amazing. Both because it's such a gog game, but because it'd be the first online MMO game on GoG.

Isn't Uru a MMO?

I doubt it. Ultima Online is still being run, and I don't think MMOs fit in GOG's philosophy. But it would be awesome.

It was supposed to be, but that fell through (hence the "To D'ni" expansion that had content planned for the MMO version). It showed up as an actual MMO not too long ago as Myst Online: Uru Live.

An MMO that is DRM-free and doesnt have a monthly payment would fit GOG, wouldnt it? It'd be something different that GoG could try.
Well, when I began this post, I clearly meant Ultima 0-9, not new Ultima games, much less new MMOs.

I told you, this game was made an official freebie years ago, I knew it. :)

For years I've been looking for a deal on an Ultima Collection box, and the sight of Ultima Underworld made me almost faint in anticipation... Ultima VII is THE game I'm looking for on GOG ever since I signed up two years ago.

Same here, pretty much.

I was going to pay $40-50 for the Ultima Collection but now I think I'll wait, heh. Just in case GOG gets the games.
