hello,

once again I'm lost in all the internet forums so I come here to ask the wisest of wisest:

what is your favourite software blu-ray player? I bought a Gravity BR disc yesterday and I wanted to play it in KMPlayer but had no luck...

thank you for your suggestions!

Have you tried VLC Player.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

Here are some guides I found with steps for playing Bluray discs on Windows with VLC Player:

https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=105955

http://blog.bluray-player-software.com/play-blu-ray-freely-with-vlc-media-player/

If after following the instructions in the guide you are still unable to play the Blurays then do as follows:

- Download the free version of DVDfav Passkey called Passkey Lite here: http://www.dvdfab.com/passkey-lite.htm

- After installing run Passkey Lite first then use VLC to play the Bluray while Passkey is running.

hi, and thank you for the answer... I'm reading through the forums, but seriously, no free player is able to just play the discs without any massive tweaking? :)

VLC works fine with Blurays. You just need to install the AACS library.

ok, I'll check it out, thanks!

(any reason why it's not part of the VLC installer? :D sorry for being a lazy man :)

There are certain legal uncertainties with it, especially with regard to DRM circumvention. There's nothing inherently illegal about it, but keeping it separate means that should some copyright nazi come along and challenge it in court, it won't affect VLC itself. Just to be on the safe side.

I see... DRM really does suck everywhere.
I still get an error when I try to run the disc... :( guess I'll have to wait until I earn enough money for full version of PowerDVD (or a home cinema :D
I wasn't thinking software when I saw the thread title and I thought GOG giveaways had gone WAY too far. ;)
What kind of bluray drive do you have?

Did you try using Passkey Lite? Just follow the last couple of instructions in my original post. Some people have had success using Passkey Lite concurrently with VLC player.
thank you all for your patience and hints, I'll try again this afternoon...

also, StingingVelvet, I know exactly where to get a free blu-ray player - basically in every household except mine...

Many discs are not protected with only AACS, but also BD+ or some other protection idiocy that VLC may not yet be able to decrypt.

which is quite lame as I've bought a Czech blu-ray disc in the Czech Republic and I can't play it now :D

and I've heard even PowerDVD (which costs 100 USD) doesn't always run those and need regular patches... what's happened to the world...

Yeah, the Blu-ray spec was designed to be updated from time to time as media companies realise that filthy Linux/open-source users start being able to play the discs. New discs get new keys and encryption mechanisms, so non-updated players may not be able to play them.
