Uhh... I just bought Fallout Collection from Steam (it is on sale for ridiculously cheap right now) and just found out it is not compatible with Windows 7 64 bit. I found a thread with fixes on the Steam forum but you have to do download all these different patches from random Russian websites (WTF?), I don't want to have to do all this just to get a game that I bought to run on my computer. I just noticed that GOG lists fallout as WIn7 compatible. Is there a way I can transfer my steam license to GOG or do I have to repurchase it?

You'll have to re-purchase it, sorry. On here we have the games seperately, and we have no interaction with steam other than occasional giveaways.

I know nothing about doing this but right off the bat without reading your post, just the title... I'm going to say no, you can't transfer the games you own from Steam's service to GOG's service.

Yes, I found those already.

It is ridiculous that I have to do all that to get a game to run. If it is not compatible with Windows 7 as is, Steam should say so on the Product Page.

Yes, yes they should. Steam doesn't really concern themselves with compatibility at all though, and leaves it all up to the publisher/developer. If I'm not mistaken there are Steam-sold games that don't run even on Windows XP, while the Steam client itself doesn't run on anything below that.

the majority of older games are W7 compatible out-of-the-box. so what's the issue with Fallout? i bought it on GoG, so i don't know. is the original release incompatible? or are you just talking about higher resolution? because the GoG edition doesn't support higher resolutions either, unless you apply a user-made patch.

Fallout 1 in particular has issues with Vista/Win7, or at least 64-bit versions, mostly due to low-bit colors and screen flickering. It's still technically playable but it's ugly as hell. If you can get the high-res patch, it fixes all the issues even if you use the original resolution. It affects the retail versions, too.

Thanks a lot DosFreak!

It looks like the Mod in your link incorporates all the best fixes/updates for Fallout 1 that are available. I'll try it out and we'll see how it goes. I'm sure it will work.

Actually it is a video card issue rather than a OS issue. And it does it on 32 bit systems and XP as well. I understand that the much faster refresh rate for modern video cards is the culpret.
People often blame OS's for video card problems.
