Yesterday after the conference there was a rumour mentioned in the forums that Interplay is losing many licenses over the following months until the end of the year, the Fallouts among them.

I understand that 35$ is not a big amount for 32 games, but it's still a fairly decent amount in its own right and the deal is filled with games I'll probably never get down to playing, so I would like to know if I will ever get the chance to pick some of these games individually again.

I understand that the GOG Christmas sales start way before Christmas and if anything, the games will be discounted again, but my question pretty much is:

Is there are real chance that (certain games from) the Interplay catalogue may be pulled from the store (even for a small amount of time)?

Well it's public knowledge that Interplay loses the rights and the rights to sell the "Classic" Fallout games on 1st of January 2013, and then those rights go to Zenimax

I'm expecting Zenimax on that date to finally get on board of GOG

The issue is that pretty soon the rights to the early Fallout games will transfer to Bethesda/ZeniMax. As Bethesda/ZeniMax aren't on GOG, it's possible (but hopefully unlikely) that they'll pull the Fallout games.

Bethesda is getting Fallout series since 1.1.2013, so GOG has to sign them to keep Fallout games here.

It's not that hard. Even a simple "we sincerely do not know what will happen" will suffice, just like they did a couple of weeks ago about that other game that was removed (can't remember the name).

Yes, but that was only one weekend before the games were removed. I see the same thing happening with Fallout if they can't work anything out with Zenimax.

From my (admittedly barely comparable) businessman's perspective, I'd look at it as, "You mean I can continue to make money off this IP we just bought, and do so without lifting a finger? Sure, sign me up." But... I prefer things simple like that.

Since no one knows yet what will happen, not even those at gog as they are probably working on new deals which may or may not happen, then the clearest answer you will get is probably:

"We may or may not need to remove some or all of interplays titles in the foreseeable or far future."

(this, by the way, applys to every single game in gog's catalogue with the exceptions of Withcer I & II)

To name three games that got removed from GoG but still sold elsewhere: Republic: The Revolution, Obscure and Hostile Waters...

They are all sold on other digital download services but have not returned here after being removed...

I wish we'd get some more info on those titles (I really wanted them all from GoG) but TheEnigmaticT and others never comment on them...

Not to mention that Interplay isn't really doing great nowadays.

What recent games did they release anyway?

I know Green Man Gaming had Hostile Waters available till recently, but now it's listed as "Out of Stock".

Aside from some questionable casual games, not a whole lot. Apparently, they are working on a new Battle Chess game though. Interesting.

I think they launched a KS for that game, and it failed.


About the Fallout series, I've read they'll lose the rights on January 1st 2014.
