So, I am "rediscovering" gaming. Last time I was serious about games was around 1989/90. Obviously things have changed a little since then! I had a friend tell me that if I had a joy pad for my lap top, it would be much easier for me to play. I have an HP G61 notebook with Windows 7. I would like advice on what I should look for when I buy a joy pad. Anyone can make some recommendations it would be greatly appreciated!

An Xbox 360 controller!, because of its size, shape, quality, compatibility with modern games and control. ^_^

If you can get the wireless type, it would be much better than the wired so the cable won't get in your way (believe me, it gets really annoying afer a while...). Don't forget to get the wireless controller that includes the "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows". This receiver is needed to connect the wireless controller and is plugged into the computer using an USB port. It will also connect many more wireless controllers (I think up to 4). As for batteries, I recommend using rechargeables (it needs 2 AA batteries and the average charge for 2700 mAh batteries last at least a week if you play everyday).

One more vote for the Logitech F### series. Newer games, check. Older games, check. Keyboard only games, check again.

I own the F710 myself, and it's one of the best computer related purchases I've done.

Oh, it also works with a PS3, and I think it also works with an XBOX360, though I couldn't find one to test it.

First post gets it. The 360 controller has become the standard for PC games needing a controller in modern times.

I adore my Logitech. I have a cordless rumblepad 2 but anything from the links above are a good choice. Besides, I don't even think they make the one I have anymore.

I'm using a Logitech F310 at current, mainly as I simply cannot tolerate the shape of the XBOX 360 controller, much greatly preferring the more classic dual analogue design, and while this may seem fanboyish to me, but aside from the silly D-pad, the PSX controllers are what I consider to be one of the best base designs.

I'd say the Wii Classic Controller pro instead but I just looked at it and realized that it doesn't have an omnidirectional D-Pad or variable triggers that would have made it worth looking for a Wii to USB adapter for.

So that's my thoughts.

Please enlighten me, what is an omnidirectional d-pad?
