langurmonkey: I was shocked too. The Intel HD 4000 is not like the other integrated crap out there. I should be able to play World At War, aarrgggrhrgh!!!

This guy says he is getting around 45 fps with the Intel HD 4000.

A better version of a crap series is still dragged down by its brothers!!!!

On a serious note you could open up ini-files and see what you can change. Be prepared to make the game look really bad so I would probably put in the new-computer-backlog.

Wow, first google hit: yitchww1

The guy compares his results:

171 FPS
(STOCK 1024x768, fov 65, no shadows or spec or ocean or dyn foliage or bullet impacts, with blinear texture)

200 FPS
(yitchwwbeta1.cfg)

375 FPS
(yitchww1.cfg 800x600, fov 65)

That's serious business. I wonder how it looks.

FYI, for the untrained eye higher FPS != always better. A stable FPS gives a much smoother experience. That's why VSync is awesome, not just because of elimination of tearing but because it limits the framerates, making it stable and constant rather than fluctuating.

The game also does this really strange thing. It slows down then speeds up sometimes. This tells me, COD WAW doesn't know how to work with my CPU.

I've had that when the CPU (or GPU) doesn't know if you're currently in 3D mode or 2D mode which means a power management system can kick in. I searched for a while but I couldn't bloody find those damn settings. There are two of them in BIOS, one controls voltage core and the other CPU frequency. It's recommended to disable those and if you want to save power then use either hibernation or sleep mode when you don't use the computer.

If it only happens in CoD WaW it's very strange but I would recommend to avoid that game until you have a computer that meet recommended system requirements.

Did you try the tweak I posted? :)

That's a shame because WaW is a really, really good game. I used to be one of those oldschool MP FPS players who looked down on the CoD franchise. At one point I went to my friends' place and they played WaW on their PS3. I somewhat enjoyed it, so got it for my PC and ended up playing for a 100+ hours. The multiplayer is simply excellent. Mind you, it's important that you get it for PC and not for the console.

I've bought every single CoD since and they've for the most part been trash. WaW truly was the apogee of the series.
It has one nasty thing - enemies respawning for inifinity unless you reach checkpoint. Other than that, it's an ok shooter.

edit: oh, it's a begging thread... :P

Are you talking about SpeedStep? I disabled that shit a long time ago.

I tried the tweaks but they don't increase my fps. The game just doesn't know how to use my CPU. :(

Yes, but there's another. C1E or something like that.

What CPU do you have?

You know what, skip this game. You have almost 500 games here and I think you can easily find something enjoyable that would work without issues. :P
