Chihaya: PS3 all the way. PSN games just embarass the XBLA library.

What games in particular are you talking about? Wipeout HD is cool, and Fat Princess is cool, but Geometry Wars 2 is also cool. So are Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, but those are ports. But I don't see anything that really "embarrasses" the XBLA library.

Wraith: +Blu-ray. I don't care what you read, if you have an HDTV, the differences between Blu-ray and DVD is obvious. Obviously older titles are all going to look the same no matter what format, but the picture quality for newer, HD titles is MUCH better on Blu-ray than DVD.

This isn't true, the bit about old titles. Do you even know what you mean by "HD titles?" I just want to dispel misconception. But really, my point is that even older titles look fantastic.
I'd go for PS3.

-Burn Zombie BURN!
-GTI Club
-Shatter
-Flower
-Pain
-Everyday Shooter
-Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection
-PixelJunk games
-Super Stardust HD
-Magic Ball
-Noby Noby Boy
-Super Rub a Dub
-Soldner
-Trash Panic
-Zen Pinball
-Lemmings
And many others that I forget.
How isn't that for quality and diversity?
With PSN you get a lot of very diverse games, tons of cool indie projects with huge production values, and of the utmost quality. It's almost worth the price of a PS3 on its strenghts alone.
On XBLA in comparison most games just look cheaper and there are many ROM ports or cosmetic remakes of old ROMs that don't add anything to the core gameplay. Honestly Shadow Complex is the only 2009 360 game I've played this year.
There's simply no contest.

michaelleung: I'm still getting ODST. Seems cool.

My rooommate got ODST yesterday, and while I didn't play it because I have 2 lab reports due tomorrow, it looked really cool. And I don't even like Halo that much.
Well, I do have most of those. I guess I've become spoiled, and just want more.

There's this pool game coming out at the end of the year. It looks totally awesome.

Wraith: .
+PSN is free. Sure, Xbox live is only $50 a year, but it will run out, and if you don't have the money to renew it at the time it's up, you are downgraded back to silver and can't play online (I'm a bit bitter about this since my finances are tight for another 3 months and it JUST expired.)
avatar
Aliasalpha: Thats a bit of a non-issue since he already has a 360 and plays multiplayer (presumably online), he'd already have gold, just use the same account and you're laughing.
avatar
Wraith: +PSN has a large selection of classic games for download. I'm not sure the PS3 slim can play them since they took backwards compatibility out of it completely, but they have a larger selection than the Xbox originals catalog.

I so want to see the psn store for other countries, we have a grand total of 50 ps1 titles for sale (though I'm looking on the PSP at the moment so it MIGHT be excluding ones that can't be played on it but I was under the impression that they all could), still more than the 360's offerings I'll admit but its hardly a massive catalogue to crow about. The marketplace advantage will be determined by what hong kong gets
avatar
Wraith: Also, PS3's have less of a failure rating. On the standard models anyways, the slims are too new to know how they are going to last.

The newer model 360s have a vastly improved failure rate, sure it would have been hard to make it worse than the launch models but it sounds like they've learned the lesson about cutting costs in manufacturing and using shit components
avatar
michaelleung: I'm leaning towards the PS3 Slim, but if I see a decent deal on the 360 I'll go for that.
But really, PS3. Seems betterer.

You could aways shop around for the best bundle. I bought my PS3 at a shop that was bundling it with Batman which I wanted anyway. I'm buying a mate a 360 as a late birthday present and the shop I'm getting it from has thrown in a free copy of Halo ODST which I'm keeping for myself (he wouldn't like it and the box already has halo 3 & halo wars), saves me the task of hunting down a half price one on ebay (I doubt it'd have the replay value for anything more than half price but "free" is better!)

The 360's with the improved hardware are the Jasper models. The Jasper models, as far as I know, are only the Xbox 360 Arcade, and maybe the new elites, but I've heard some are still Falcon models which can still have a good chance to RRoD. After my RRoD, I bought an Elite with both Fable 2 and Halo 3 bundled in (Good deal for me, I didn't have either game) and it was still a Falcon model.
Do you want the Red Ring of Death or Sony's customer support? Your choice.

Considering sony's doesnt even recognize the YLOD (yellow light of death) as existing, Red ring seems like a better option.
Then strangly enough the fact that you can get the banjo games from the XBL market would be a large selling point for me lol.
But then since this guy ALLREADY HAS ONE OF EACH you have to consider how smart you can be to buy another.
Please like its hard to move a console, just pick one place and leave it there.
300-500 is alot to pay for lazyness.

Wii is now 200 bucks.
PS3 is now 300 (I forgot the size of the memory for that one).
Xbox360...I don't even remember.
I wouldn't buy either an Xbox or a PS3 without an extended warranty. And I don't buy a lot of extended warranties.

Weclock: ps3 is a good deal.
halo odst sucks.
also, with the xbox you get no wireless options, and you get crappy hard drive upgrade options.

Have to disagree with you on ODST. I got it launch day and it's been enjoyable. Typical grunt jabber is kind of garbage, but other than that the game is great.
PS3 all the way, though.

i haven't played it, but I've read enough from reviews that it's just more halo with a really uninteresting hub world tacked on.
I hate these posts.
Tell you what, buy this instead...
