If you already have one of each, then the choice should be clear. You get which ever one you feel like buying for a second time.

Another idea in favour of a 360, you can buy an arcade pretty cheap and just move the HDD from your other 360 when you want to use it, that way you won't have to piss about re-downloading any downloadable content you have

Yeah. Just watched War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise Edition). It wasn't so much fun on a 14" tv.... sigh.. Sorry kids.

I happen to have both a PS3 and a 360, and I have to say, I play the 360 more, but that's because I've had the 360 for longer. However, I would have to lean more towards the PS3. Why?
+Blu-ray. I don't care what you read, if you have an HDTV, the differences between Blu-ray and DVD is obvious. Obviously older titles are all going to look the same no matter what format, but the picture quality for newer, HD titles is MUCH better on Blu-ray than DVD.
+PSN is free. Sure, Xbox live is only $50 a year, but it will run out, and if you don't have the money to renew it at the time it's up, you are downgraded back to silver and can't play online (I'm a bit bitter about this since my finances are tight for another 3 months and it JUST expired.)
+PSN has a large selection of classic games for download. I'm not sure the PS3 slim can play them since they took backwards compatibility out of it completely, but they have a larger selection than the Xbox originals catalog.
+You can upgrade the hard drive. And not with some overpriced proprietary drive, you can go to newegg and buy a computer drive and toss it in.
+I know you don't want to hear it, but compare the graphics of some of the Xbox exclusive titles, like Fable 2, Gears of War, and Halo to PS3 exclusives, such as Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4. PS3 exclusives just look 10x better.
Also, PS3's have less of a failure rating. On the standard models anyways, the slims are too new to know how they are going to last.

Before the actual post: yes, that is +1 for the PS3, but the xbox drive CAN be replaced without having to buy a new overpriced xbox-branded one, it just takes a little more work.
You can use any normal 2.5" SATA drive to replace the one in the proprietary closure. Granted, it removes any warranty from the enclosure since one of the screws sits under a shiny microsoft sticker, and the external screws are pretty small but I managed to open them with a 1.8mm flat screwdriver.
Don't take my word for it though, as I haven't actually replaced the drive, but just opened the enclosure because I was curious.

It also has to be the right brand and of a supported size, the system is only designed to recognise very specific drive types so you can't whack a 500GB in and expect it to work. Soon you should be able to do a 250 though

If memory serves, although the Xbox360 uses a 2.5" drive, you can only replace it with a very specific model of WD notebook drive. There is also some boot sector type related messing around required as well.
The psone classics on the PSN work fine on a Slim, as do regular discs. It would be nice if there were releases on the store more often though.

I'm leaning towards the PS3 Slim, but if I see a decent deal on the 360 I'll go for that.
But really, PS3. Seems betterer.

Thats a bit of a non-issue since he already has a 360 and plays multiplayer (presumably online), he'd already have gold, just use the same account and you're laughing.

I so want to see the psn store for other countries, we have a grand total of 50 ps1 titles for sale (though I'm looking on the PSP at the moment so it MIGHT be excluding ones that can't be played on it but I was under the impression that they all could), still more than the 360's offerings I'll admit but its hardly a massive catalogue to crow about. The marketplace advantage will be determined by what hong kong gets

The newer model 360s have a vastly improved failure rate, sure it would have been hard to make it worse than the launch models but it sounds like they've learned the lesson about cutting costs in manufacturing and using shit components

You could aways shop around for the best bundle. I bought my PS3 at a shop that was bundling it with Batman which I wanted anyway. I'm buying a mate a 360 as a late birthday present and the shop I'm getting it from has thrown in a free copy of Halo ODST which I'm keeping for myself (he wouldn't like it and the box already has halo 3 & halo wars), saves me the task of hunting down a half price one on ebay (I doubt it'd have the replay value for anything more than half price but "free" is better!)

ps3 is a good deal.
halo odst sucks.
also, with the xbox you get no wireless options, and you get crappy hard drive upgrade options.

If you want it for Game playing I'd get the 360, especially for casual games. The XBox Live Marketplace has so many little games it's unreal.
If on the other hand you want a media player, I'd go with the PS3. Especially if you have very many blu-ray movies.

Neither. Good Old Games.
You are posting on a PC, and chances are you can play all of GOG's catalogue on that PC, and for the $300 a Ps3/Xbox will cost you BEFORE games, you could buy FIFTY GOG's.
