Patrician 3
Stronghold (or/and Crusader)

And, what are your all time favourites?
Mine are:
Tropico
Sim City

I though it was one of those old games that were truly quite bad, but it looks alright
I also forgot to say I love Evil Genius
I bought it when it was first released and have been playing it ever since

Personally I'd go for Patrician 3. It's got a good blend of pretty much all the things you were after as well as some limited politics and some weird random events.
My sister had a ship called the Bride Of Leubeck who's crew hardly ever completed a delivery because they kept seeing sea monsters and running away, the fact they were often transporting Beer had nothing to do with it I'm sure...

My favorites are Patrician 3 and Capitalism Plus. They're both fantastic games

Out of Patrician 3 and The Guild, I think you'll like Patrician 3 more, as that is more economy-oriented, while in The Guild has a heavier emphasis on dynasty building/everyday life.
(I wonder when JudasIscariot will find this thread and post that The Guild is the perfect choice or something like that. :-))

There's a new release in the business genre now; East India Company. It's supposedly good, although not quite as good or complex as Patrician 3.

The Guild is awesome, Patrician is very good; IMHO, TG wins in creativity\insanity region, while Patrician is much more balanced and smooth on edges.
Please let us know what the final decision will be :).

Ladies and gentlemen, TheJoe is the living example of someone who played too much Guild. If you don't want to become like him, use The Guild with caution!
