can you do some sort of league-thingy there?

DB doesn't have built in leagues but it can be done manually.
I was planning to give people a chance to have a couple of practice games to bget used to how it works (and how it is different to BB) and then set one up...

Unfortunaltey, despite the advertised team list, the Jade college CANNOT take 5 trolls :D
Looking at how Cyanide has done the team lists, this is almost certainly a bug, but one I am glad of :D
As far as I can see there are no special rules concerning injuries when you throw a Goblin against a wall, is that correct? Can you have him bounce of the walls just like a ball?

...i was actually half seriously considering taking those 5 trolls at first. but nooo, ill leave jade to be and get something else - 5 trolls or not.

The problem is that the team limits (0-1 yhetee for norse teams for example) are hard coded.
There is a team that is allowed 2 mino's.
The game actually lists them as a chaos mino & a chorf mino.
With the Jade college it's gobbo, orc & troll.
The troll section seems to be copy / pasted from the gobbo list.
So if you have chosen trolls from the gobbo list, it won't let you choose trolls from the troll list (the game thinks you have already got those players....)

I've never actually tried, so don't know.
Would be funny though...

Useful information for new players

The game doesn't seem to explain how to warp in extra players.
During your turn, click on your team name at the top of the screen.
This brings up a box with 3 tabs (Dungeon, reserves & Dugout).
The dungeon tab shows the players that are currently on the pitch.
The resers tab shows those available to warp in.
Just click a player to higlight him & then hit the "warp to dungeon" button at the bottom right corner.

The dugout tab lists those players not currently eligible to warp in injured / sent off / warped out etc...
IF A player was KO'd or Badly hurt, you will be able to click the magic sponge button at the bottom.
This heals the player & moves them to the reserves tab.
If they cannot be healed (pitted, warpouts, sent off, serious injury, etc) the magic sponge button will be greyed out.
You can use magic sponge or warp in a new player, but not both in the same turn.
You cannot warp in any new players after turn 16.

--------

It is worth stating that a DB games only has 1 drive.
This has several implications.
Pitted players are effectively crowd surfed, so will not be back until the end of the match.
There is no opportunity for the "secret Weapon" rule to eject players - DEATHROLLER TAKE NOTE....
Rerolls don't restock at half time (there IS NO half time!)
But rerolls do not cost double when purchased later...

DB games are ALWAYS 2 minute turns....

The default cyanide dungeons are really crap!
They are generally very small & heavilly biased towards strong bashy teams.
I would reccomend that everyone experiment with the dungeon editor & create their own dungeons.

Known bugs:

Chests: If a player located next to a chest has the Mighty Blow skill and the chest explodes,
the Mighty Blow skill is used on the player himself.
This apparently also applies to bombs thown by a goblin bombadier.
Does anyone know if BB shares this bug?

Bouncing balls off walls: The ball cannot be caught after it has bounced off a wall. It will instead scatter off the player it hits.

Pickup & Leap: If the coach preprograms a move onto the ball and an immediate leap, the ball pickup is never even tried.
The player just leaps away.
If the coach first moves the player onto the ball and waits for the pickup to happen and separately activates the Leap skill afterwards,
the pickup works as normal.

Pushing & Walls: If a player is pushed, but cannot move because of walls, he doesn't move.
This is as intended.
However, if Player A is pushed into player B, but player B cannot move because of walls, player A is treated as if they were pitted....

Awww... :-(
I don't like that at all!

Whenever I see people talking about TTM, I’m reminded of an old comic I saw years ago:
A gobbo grabs the ball, runs up to an ogre & tugs on his hand.
The ogre turns picks up the gobbo & launches him into the air.
The gobbo flies downfield with a big grin on his face, which suddenly disappears when he notices the guy standing in the endzone with a baseball bat at the ready….
So when will this league be coming into commission? Been wanting to give this a more serious look.

And also... Could we make it so that everyone in the league has to have made their own dungeon? That sounds stupidly fun. Home field advantage could possibly be a thing.

If that's asking to much, disregard. I just thought it'd be cool :)

I plan to open the league in about a week, after everyone has had a chance to familiarise themselves with the game.
And yes, I do plan on asking people to make a home stadium (within a few sensible guidelines....)
I'm going to run a few tests on the game in the near future and see if my participation is manageable...the game's poor optimization might keep me out of this one since it ran pretty badly on my computer when I played Rod.

EDIT: So the jury's still out, but it seems to be running a little better--the complexity of the dungeon may have a lot to do with my ability to run the game.

So did anyone else pick up DB?
So it looks like we have:
Me
Zeta
Digital Hero
Iipp0
Piranjade

Zeta has performance issues (Oh how many ways can I interpret that sentence? ;D )
So that leaves the 4 of us.

I'm thinking a 6 week league to begin with, playing each other team home & away, followed by a knockout stage.
Each player will need to create a new team & a home stadium.
The big rule about the stadiums is that there must be 7 squares of access to the endzone, so you can't just sit with your starting 6 & completely block the endzone.
If, rather than creating your own dungeon, you want to use a Cyanide one, or one created by someone else, as long as it meets this criteria, that is fine.

I will generate a fixture list.
There are no admin tools for DB, so if you suffer a DC, tough.
1 rematch will be acceptable, but in the event of a second DC, the concession will stand.
A home win is worth 2 league points, an away win is worth 3.

Question:
Should we continue to use this thread, or do you want a new one.
(I'm cautious of cluttering up GOG with too many semi private threads...).

I will maintain a league table in the OP of whichever thread we end up using.

Question:
Should the knockout stage include all 4 teams?
I'm tempted to say yes, but want to know what you think / want.

I am thinking Tuesday 6th July as kick off date.
This should give everyone time to create teams & dungeons & get some more practice games in if they wish.
Note that, while you can create a team identical to your league team for practice, your league team should still be brand new for the start of the season.
Again, is this date doable, or do people want to start sooner / later?

Finally, if anyone else wants to join, GET ON WITH IT, the clock is ticking....
