uruk: Let me remind you about a few of the many evil acts that have been done here.
Stealing candy form babys, killing paladins, poisoning new members, burning someone alive, light a building on fire, destroying someones hope and dreams, that evil cult, just pain killing someone.just to name a few.

Ah, yes, our very own raving lunatic. Please just take these pills like every other evening and you'll soon get back to your very own paradise, devoid of life, with undead minions and whatever else your imagination seems to come up with.
I think that, other than from the repetition involved in game play on WoW the forums are one of the worse aspects of it. I have seen at least a few posters saying "did he/she drop good loot?" after someone put some kind of monologue about how the person who played that account (or a related account) died IRL. I guess the good question is some forums it seems the tweenie boppers wonder how low they can go :P
But yeah... the forum here is a looot more mature due to most of the immature brats being more into the high end graphic games where they can grief other human players since you can't grief CPU players... or at least thats how it seems sometimes...

First, who is gamesbrief.com ?!
Second, Well I do agree with some points, but he is really harsh in others.
I guess that the more niche the subject of the forum is, the more auto-moderated and with greater civility (by its users) this forum will be. The more populated (e.g. WoW) the more crap will be available as data, so guys like this can make bad analysis and generalize everything.
I hate social networks (the ones in the style of facebook) being used as official communication tools. I'm cool with twitter because it's fast and clear.
I like the idea of blogs for official announcements and as a main, index channel, but don't agree with comments in it 'cause they tend to get nasty and derailed. (I just tried today to search through the gog news, and it has been complicated...). Although it's cool to see the gog news as a post in the forums, to see these general announcements tied to the community.
I agree that forums are unstructured and hard to find the best threads, it's complicated to follow 5 forums, for example.

sheepdragon: When the average forum seems to have a community primarly made up of thousands upon thousands illiterate 13-18 year old morons, I could see why that might seem to be the best course of action.

This.

El_Caz: GOG's forums has it's dose of kids and teens but it also has a large dose of adults. Newbies aren't treated as harsh as in other forums, and even when they make their first post be the classical "this game should be on GOG!" thread, apart from a few jokes and pointing them to the Wishlist, there's not much flaming going on.

Not much flaming... but sometimes the newbies get, uh... until they give up and edit their topic (or when they try to start a discussion about a game he/she loved and they are given 15 links to the wishlist instead of a conversation):

That completely depends on how they phrase the OP. Usually, it's just begging, in which case they get the wishlist link. However, in the few rare cases where they're actually trying to start a discussion, that's usually what they get, in my experience.
Speaking of new members to our "elitist" forum ...
I got these camps, inherited them from my uncle, they have these GREAT cooking facilities in the forms of ovens....don't mind the bones here. We had a big chicken cook off jamboree contest, yeah, .....
New members should stop by for an extended visit :D

Best system is the 4chan system, complete anonymity because forum veterans (100+ posts/rep) tend to have greater authority so forced anon gives their opinions the same amount of judgement as someone new.

And that's what makes 4chan the last bastion of truly classy and civilised online community.

They sure are the most polite, helpful, and nicest community I've ever been to in years.

Usually begging, yes, it's what I've been seeing.
Sorry I wrote it in a way that it sounded as happening regularly here, but it's not the case, of the OP getting ignored for a conversation.
My focus was more in the first example, not this second. The first with the link, which the guy was laughed upon and didn't even read the whys of being replied like that, then he came back and deleted the post. More than a negative impression of the community, it can evolve to a negative impression of the company too.
Forums is a waste of time.
To me, it seems people have this predetermined answer they repeat for eternity.
Forums are so old-fashioned. Newsgroups are the future. Someone should make comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.old.

I kinda miss those. There aren't any decent news servers left though, are there? All the open-access ones seem to be have about one remotely funny/useful post for every thousand spam messages.
