So, now that this game came out on PC, it just HAD to be the first thing I've grabbed off my salary. See I'm fan of two things: Metal and unique game design. And Brutal Legend just has all of it - the entire game is clever, playful, charismatic and just generally awesome. Well actually - the game itself is quite average, but manages to always keep itself interesting and fun by varying all the time, jumping madly from hack'n'slash trough racing game, open world exploration right to real-time strategy game, which is, admittedly, the weakest part of the experience (even tho I just don't find it as bad as everybody claimed it was on the consoles so far.)

So basically, what's the point of this topic? To get people to buy it! This game is an apparent labor of love, just go and buy it, it's awesome! You can ride your car amongst gigantic stone swords sticking out of the ground with Manowar playing from the car's radio, just... what's not to like? And aside from that you get all the qualities of Double Fine game: Good story, great characters, fantastic characterization.

trailer. I guess.
I rented it via Gamefly and enjoyed it enough that I eventually picked it up when the PS3 version hit $5. Even if the game was terrible (and it's not, for the reasons you listed), it would be worth $5 for the soundtrack alone.

Something actually possessed me to not get the soundtrack, even tho it's like 3 euro more expensive than the game. Damn me.

One of my first ps3 games.. The game gets actually pretty boring after a while... But if you like heavy metal you might wanna check it out, yes.

You do know that the soundtrack is only the original tracks, not the licensed ones, right? I can post a list of the songs if you'd like.
Whats the specs for the game. It looks really fun, and I am a huge fan of Tim Schafer. True, the only game I have played that he has made is Psychonauts, but that game is fantastic, so I want to play his others. I just need to know that my computer will play it.

Psychonauts got 'boring' from the gameplay standpoint as well - I just ... Don't think gameplay is the strength of Double Fine.

Yep, I do.

I hade fun with it, but it could have been so much better. The problem is that this game was in Development hell switching between publishers and Delays, so whatever this game could have been was cut and scrapped.

Scroll all the way down
It's got fantastic art direction, a very well-chosen soundtrack. Everything else just ended up being a bit...underwhelming.

People always harp on about the stage battles; I thought they were the most interesting part, but the problem with that was the mechanics only really working *in theory*, and the fact that during the game (not counting multiplayer) you only have to do, like, five; and each of these basically served to introduce a new unit for the stage battles. By the time you get the ultimate Ironheade unit, it's pretty much the end of the game; essentially stretching a tutorial out until the end of the game. Yeah, I suppose there's multiplayer, but who was in this for the multiplayer?

Apart from that, the hack n' slash parts are a bit underdeveloped, with about five different combos to choose from; the majority of the writing (basically anything spoken by anyone who isn't Jack Black) and voice acting is pretty mediocre (basically, the cameos, Jack Black and Tim Curry are the exceptions), the sidequests are lacklustre and most of the world goes unused. The driving I did like, though.

I had my fun with it, but it's a massively flawed game, held up by its soundtrack and it's look. It doesn't seem committed to any of its ideas.

That might explain a few things...it certainly feels like a lot was cut out.

Ending could have been with Eddie having a celebration after the final battle with him playing in a band with the units like headbangers playing The Metal from Tenacious D :P

Elmofongo: Briss!
I liked the ending how it was. Eddie was the protagonist, but he maintained that he was a roadie. Someone there to make someone else look good. It was interesting, I think more interesting than a WE WON WOOOOO! ending.

Not to say that it would have been unwelcome in the credits :D

In some way that makes it more impressive, in my experiance most games that go through that never really come out well in the end. I really liked Brutal Legend though, I'd rate it as one of the better games out the past few years.

Briss?
I have it on 360 and PS3, I absolutely refuse to buy another copy >.<
