It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

timppu: I remember reading somewhere that (possibly due to this) Bittorrent is moving more towards ed2k/Emule model, so that you could start downloading and possibly even search for files/releases without the use of web pages with torrent links. I guess that has been Bittorrent's weakest link technically, their dependency to torrent sites (which can be blocked or closed down).
I thought it had been like that for a while. I seem to remember being able to search for files with µTorrent last time I used it. It has been a while (a few years), so maybe I am remembering incorrectly.

Ok, I could be mistaken and it has been possible already for a longer time. That's easily checked though.

drevo2: ?
If you post link to the site that provides pirated material and you ask to not pirate only your stuff then you sound like an asshole.

Xellspooun: TPB is a search engine and nothing more. It doesn't even hold torrent files on it's server(s) anymore. If they think TPB is illegal because it pinpoints to copyrighted material, then so is Google. You can find illegal material using Google as well.

Aver: I'm against block sites, but let's be honest. TPB is made to provide access to illegal material and Google is not. For me this argument was always stupid. If someone will make a site like TBP but with child porn you will defend it the same way?
Ironically, I use TPB twice a year to download the latest ubuntu releases. Something 100% legal. For illegal files, I use private trackers. And, generally, I buy my music and my games and I rent my movies.

Anyhow, although the comparison between distributing kiddie porn and distributing copyrighted material is pointless, my argument still stands:

Which way do you think is easier for someone to access child porn? Through TPB or through Google?

In other news, cp =/= pirating.

How many torrents that you can get on TBP are illegal and how many are legal? How much content that you can with Google is legal and how much is illegal? I still think that comparing TPB and Google is a joke.
Waste of resources.
Well it's been ages since I've even been on Piratebay, but when this goes through I'm finding a way around the block and then browsing it daily. Not to download anything, just to exercise what I see as my right to see any site on the net.

Aver: In response Notch posted on his twitter how to unblock it and he added "don't pirate Minecraft". It sounds like it's ok to pirate stuff made by others but not his stuff.
No it doesn't, it just sounds like he's against censorship. He didn't say anything suggesting people pirate anything.

It might sound controversial but I would still not be happy about censorship. I dislike many things on the net. Gore videos, chip porn among others. But censorship is definitely not the right way to battle those. It is SO easy to get down a slope that it will get so used and twisted that after a while you wouldn't even remember where the slide begun.

To the specifics of PirateBay I would totally agree with Xellspooun, a few posts up. The use of censorship to protect commercial interests is outrageous.

Then he shouldn't post part about not pirating his stuff when he posted link to site help to get access to pirated material. It would sound much better.

I never said that I support any censorship or blocking sites. I just said that comparing TPB to Google is plain stupid just like comparing Google with torrent site that provides child porn.

There's a huge difference between saying "Please don't pirate my stuff" and saying "Pirate anything, but please not my stuff." He said the former.

There is also difference between "Please don't pirate my stuff" and "Here is link how to use site with pirated stuff but don't use it to pirate my stuff" ;)

It was a link on how to get around the censorship. Did you actually look at the link? <.<

Yes, it's link how to unblock Piratebay. Of course I see your point, but my point is that if you support actions like that by linking to site "How to unblock Piratebay" you should avoid trying support your own business at same time because you may sound like hypocrite.

I think that Notch spotted it too because later he did withdraw part about Minecraft.

I seem to recall a topic (possibly on this very forum) about Notch telling someone who couldn't afford Minecraft that they just go ahead and pirate it then buy it later when they could afford it. So no, I don't think that's the real impression he's giving.
