Spellforce 2 is available here without the expansion. We must boycott JoWood as well! To the pitchforkmobile!

stoicsentry: I'm boycotting both boycotts!

Alpha Centauri rocks!!!!

EA is among the worst... dragon age 2, I'm coming to get you!
That's the best response I've seen yet. Made me smile. :-)

Every other reply to the issue seems to be:

"You just hate EA." --> True or not, this is totally irrelevant. It isn't about EA hate.

"Every other publisher here does the same." --> Not true as far as I know, I've only seen it done with newer games (King's Bounty: The Legend, Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars) where the issue is price point.

"GOG will add the expansions later." --> That's happened... what, twice? In cases where the expansion was likely just overlooked?

"You should be glad that we get the games at all." --> What's the point in getting the games if we don't get the versions we want? To support GOG? I'll do that by buying games from publishers that give us the full deal.

"You should be glad that we get the games at $5.99." --> I'd rather pay $9.99 for a complete edition.

"You should not buy them but shut up about it." --> Sorry but I feel the need to provide a counterpoint to the rampant enthusiasm over EA deigning to give us scraps off its table. I'd like GOG to know my view on the issue and how it affects my buying habits.

Anyway... Prob be back later tonight if you have anything other than the above to say.

I'm boycotting every game I've bought on GOG because non of them ever came with expansion packs in the first place. Screw you, Planescape: Torment.

This is getting ridiculous.

Dear GOG users:

Please mark every post in this thread, including mine, as (-). It's time for this thread to die.

Thank you.

So you're saying boycott this thread?

ddmuse: See, I don't get these reactions. You want incomplete versions of games? Okay, buy them. Your dollar, your vote. Me? I don't. It's not about EA hate. I'm not paying for a version of a game that I don't want. Is it really such a difficult concept?
In what way are they incomplete?? Nobody said you would get the game with it's expansion to begin with. If you don't want to buy a game then don't , you don't have to rant and carry on about it. Is it such a difficult concept?

I think it only fair to let GOG know why I am not purchasing any of these new releases.

If you are happy with the games that GOG has released, then fine. I (and I am sure others) don't wish to knock or put down your decision to buy these games. But GOG made such a big deal about releasing these games, those not happy with the present releases really should step up and let GOG know why.

Coelocanth: I don't get it. Why is there even the expectation that we'd get the expansions included?
avatar
epmode: Because nearly every other game on GOG that had an expansion has the expansion included in the GOG installer?
Spellforce 2 doesn't and that was just released. JoWood is likely to be dead and gone quite soon and there was nowhere near as much fuss.

Edit:Whoops! Delixe beat me to it 3hours ago *embarrassed*

"Nearly"

Also: No one cares about that game.
Best thread ever?

Really? The original is sitting just below Planescape Torment on the RPG bestseller list.

If you mean the responses to the short-sighted initial post, it's up there.
not part of my budget this week but I really cant wait to buy the games. And to be honest, I buy off GOG not because of the whole DRM issue but simply because they put the games available to acquire legally.
I don't understand the level of passion on either side. I won't be buying SMAC without the expansion, and I still very much wish they would (or could, perhaps) provide more information on the expansion situation in general. I've made that position clear. I don't appreciate people who've suggested that makes me somehow ungrateful.

On the other hand, it's a game-by-game thing for me. The great thing about GOG is that I don't have to CARE what developer it is, as I never have to deal with them with any of the games I buy here. If they release a game I want, with the content I want, I'll buy it (money allowing). The trend of EA games with no expansions is a bit worrying, but that just means I don't buy THOSE games.

Snickersnack: Really?
Compared to EA's back catalog? Yeah, really.

edit: I don't mean to be snarky. That's just the whole issue right there. There's no conspiracy against EA or GOG. The reason why you're seeing so many complaints now is largely due to massive interest in EA's games.

Not to mention that GOG is historically very good at securing all of the expansions in their initial releases. On top of that, the EA stuff is exclusive to GOG so there is no other legal option for a digital release.

All of that seems very reasonable to me and I really don't understand the people who are angry with people voicing disappointment.
