When the Developers are surprised by there own randomly generated items you know the game is good. I still hate the look and wish they didn't change it. But what can you do. I'll be buying this in a few months when the new pressing comes out. i do not want that online activation crap on my game.
I might have to get the ps3 version... i hope i don't but will see

Rohan15: I beg do differ. I am NOT a fan of realistic graphics, and I am a console kid. 'Sides, if I wanted a 'Borderland' experience, I'd just go down to that gate we build near the Texas border and shoot illegals all day.*

Navagon: I was going to ask if you throw violent tantrums when mummy doesn't buy you the latest Halo, but if you shoot illegals...

Actually I never really cared for Halo, you are confusing me for my little brother. Besides, Halo isn't that fun to begin with.
I'll get this when its $30.
According to an interview, the GearDirector (I think thats what the AI is called) created over 1,000,000 weapons.
I preordered it (did a 4-pack on these forums) and am eagerly anticipating it. At first, I figured it was just going to be "Hellgate, but not crap". Plus, I absolutely love the art style and humor of the game (finally, something slightly different. And, it reeks of Mad Max/Road Warrior).
Then, I read the RPS "Verdict" on it today. If it is even half as entertaining as they described, it was worth whatever the hell I ended up paying.
Most of the complaints I have seen focus on the following:
Art Style: I can understand how some people might not like it, but I find it fun. At the very least, it is different than the "standard template construct" crap that devs use these days. Case in point: I am 75% certain that the wrecked train car/bus from Fallout 3's intro is the same one I took cover in when I played STALKER...
Humor: Yeah, it seems pretty over the top and tongue-in-cheek. So?
Lack of plot: Meh, it is a sandbox game.
DRM/Price/Disdain for Gearbox/Use of Gamespy/Other Stuff: People always find reasons for not liking something. And no matter how weak/biased those arguments may seem, you can't change their minds. So, whatever.

Way to miss the point :p
I find the art style to be great. Then again, I thought the before they changed the art, the game would be great anyway (a kazillion guns based on different permutations? Heck yeah!). Their way of standing out from the already boring and endless pile of shooters to choose from did work. I am so stoked about this game.

What, the whole illegals=aliens or that I am violent? I wouldn't kill the illegals, just force them to work in my dad's landscaping company...=P
It does look like a lot of fun, but the 1.000.000 weapons is actually a bit of a warning sign for me. I'm a bit afraid it goes like this:
Pistol 1 dmg
Pistol 2 dmg
Pistol 3 dmg
Etc.
Same for the shotgun and the machine gun. So essentially you'll have like 5 or 6 weapons which are the same, but with teeny tiny differences. I might be wrong, so we'll see.

Some of the weapons will be purely cosmetic changes, and some will be small differences. I hope there will be more to it than that.

This proves two things. Firstly, he's a stupid hick, and secondly, he's a wee lad.

I guess he falls into the 'doesn't pay any attention' console kiddy category. :D

No, I just have a sick sense of humor. Sides, you are younger than me AND I am not a hick. If you want to see hicks, go to Arkansas, not Texas. And to Captfitz, what more do you expect from ME? Really, it's ME.

ovoon: I'm really excited. An RPG that plays like diablo but is an FPS. When I was watching the 30 minute long 4 player so-op gameplay it looked like an instance on an MMO filled with bosses, loot, quests, and options to go wherever.
Its also by Gearbox. Can't wait for tomorrow :)

Yeah, I am happy it worked out for Gearbox, though I wasn't predicting success. This should go a long way towards establish Gearbox as a solid developer...and I bet Microsoft are kicking themselves now for not securing them for the new Halo series.

DarthKaal: This "bland, grey 'realistic'" graphics you're talking about is maybe one of the main reasons I don't have much interest in recent games.
I like games with nice graphics, a visual identity, not a 'realistic' look.
In this game, I like what they've done with this sort of cell shading, a technique often not used correctly.
avatar
Navagon: Too much realism just makes games look yawnsome. Games can be detailed while maintaining their own unique visual style. I think Borderlands is a perfect example of that. Another would be the upcoming Brink.

Uncanny Valley 101 right there. Humans have a quirky tendancy to find things which try to look like something else to actually look very jarringly UNLIKE it as it starts to strive for a closer match. Watch Beowulf, and you will understand.
