Previously, I have come up with the "Vault Boy Photoshop Contest", where entrants would create photoshopped pictures of the Fallout Vault Boy mascot. Randomness was left out and the winner was ultimately chosen based on creativity. That turned out to be a success, so there will be another one in the future. However, I have come up with a different idea for a contest this time: a level design contest! :-O

Each contest will feature one game that has a level editor. Entrants will be required to create one or more custom levels using that editor, and post them here. The winner will be decided based on which level is my favorite.

Without further ado, let's get on with the giveaway, shall we?

Featured game: Jetpack (DOS, 1993)
The prize: a $9.99 GOG game of your choice if you win.

RULES FOR ENTRY: (Please read carefully!)

-First off, state if you're in or not. Entries that do not clearly state this will not qualify. Also, only enter for yourself, please.

-You must create a custom level for the featured game, upload it to a file sharing site like 2Shared or something, and post it here. In this contest, it's a classic DOS platform game called Jetpack. It's available as freeware, and can be downloaded here. It's easy to get running in DOSBox. (assuming you probably know how to use it. :P) It's also easy to learn how to play, yet the game can get quite difficult. Because of this, the contest will be extended in order to give new players time to somewhat master the game. The level editor is very easy to learn and use, and it's almost as fun as the game itself. (that was one of the reasons for the game's popularity back in the day BTW.) Anyways, entrants are required to create one or more levels with the editor. They are saved as ".JET" files in the "LEVELS" directory. You'll find that in the game directory, which should be named "jetpak15". Upload the level file(s) and post download links to them here, so not only I can try them, but others can too.

-Please include the name(s), as well as short description(s), of your level(s) in your post.

-The levels don't necessarily have to be of any specific difficulty, but try not to make them too easy or too hard.

-No rep requirements, but you must have a join date of at least August 2014 and a forum presence outside of giveaway/gift request threads.

-Not necessarily a requirement, but please consider voting for and [url=http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/Jetpack_2/]Jetpack 2 on the GOG wishlist, in the hopes that they may come here some day. Also consider sending a message to GOG about this, saying you would get these games if they came here. (Assuming that it's true, please don't lie)

-This contest will run for 1 to 2 months, depending on participation. The winner is to redeem the gift at his/her earliest convenience. No trading or re-gifting, it's for YOU only!
Understand? GOOD!

Prepare for take-off!

BillyMaysFan59: HEADS-UP: Note that I will be offline this weekend, starting Thursday, and probably won't be back until Tuesday afternoon. During that time I will be unable to look at any entries. (Also there will be no Monday Madness giveaway next week)
I guess someone else will have to bump the weekend promos, right?

That's a lot of effort for six bucks! ;)

Alas, I simply could not figure out how to configure DosBox to get the game to run. Someone smarter than me would have to figure that out.

[EDIT] to add emoticon. This isn't mafia, so I can get away with it. (WINKING FACE)

I can make it a $10 prize, no problem ;)

Also... a DOSBox tutorial here:

I don't think I can pull this one off, but will look into it just for the fun of it.

Extra kudos for another marvellously creative idea, many +1 (even if I can only give you one)

And if I may say so, imho, it's poor taste to criticise the monetary value of the prize, themed giveaways are primarily about participation and fun - just my 2c.

Sorry BillyMaysFan59, I just couldn't help myself.

er, sorry for the double post, this just needed a response...

I was hopeful my "six bucks" comment would fairly obviously be a joke... for exactly the reason you describe! I didn't make my entry in hopes of turning my labor into profit... I did it because it was fun and a great idea. As long as the prize isn't a swift kick in the pants, I'll be happy!

Apparently a misunderstanding, but next time please use some emoticons to make the tone of your comment clear(er).
Edited. Now with extra winky.
Some insane custom levels here, for your entertainment...
