I would recommend you to try on either gog open league or Auld/Naggaroth (the biggest public ladders) few different teams for match or two. Humans would be the average joes that can do everything to some extend. Then maybe try bit more str team like Orcs or Undead - and some elven team. If you have time for that, then youll have far easier time to make up your mind which team you really want to play.

Teams with lots of skills are easier to start with for beginner. The original threads second post contains several links to guides and other assorted info on teams and what not.

I'm not sure yet. Piranjade and E.A. strongy recomend a human team for a newbie like myself. But I like the mutations skills... and agility 4... so many choices...

if you want mutations - skaven can be considered for newbie. and chaos dwarves (might be getting lots of those though). but forget about vanilla chaos, they are one of the most unforgiving teams for newbie. Nurgle is pretty much the same.

Humans, amazons, norse, orcs, undead - those are pretty solid to start with.

The problem with Skavens is their low av. They're great if you don't get nervous seeing how you nearly always have less players than your opponent.
I think humans and orcs are better for a newbie, but chaos is pretty solid. I mean is not like you're going to lose a lot of players because of mistakes...

The Chaos team doesn't need to roll doubles to have mutation access, they can take mutations every time, just like Nurgle (except the Beast) and Underworld.

err no. chaos is -NOT- solid.

Totally no skills. Unless you 100% understand the odds of dodging, block assists, what skills you need in what order, builds that make sense etc you will be quickly getting turnovers and get frustrated.

The thing with skaven is that they are fast. silly fast. so when you get the ball, its pretty easy to move it around the pitch and even score, for a newbie. also skaven have decent amount of skills, can try passing with very decent chance, are affordable and can buy good number of rerolls as well.

of the elfy teams high elves / de are the most durable, but especially DE are among the most expensive teams in the game so if/when you get really hurt - well it may be difficult to get back in game and not feel like a cripple.

i'll pitch in. to inform a newbie, what to consider about elves.

1) Dark elves are useless against high armor, Av 8 or so means btzzzzzzzzz. But againt lizard, blitzing stab a skink has a very good chance of causing him to drop the ball. It's not a block roll either.

your opponents will absolutely HATE Dump off, and you will love dump off.

starts with 4 blitzers, other teams only have 2! av 8 lineman. dodging witch elves.
that extra armor makes lineman pricy though. on the other hand, assasins? double roll?
multiple block, no question. Double stabbing? Count me in.

2) High elves have better armor, lol safe throw.

av 8 lineman, usual elves

But high elves hate me. I have abysmal luck with them.

3) Elves aka pro elves or pure elves or the better and best elves and the only elves you should play compared to above 2.
Catches get a double skill: nerves of steel of pure epic. This wins you games more then anything else.
Sidestep blockers, hahahahahaahaa.

However, lineman are only av 7, but cost/value is 60k/60.

4) wood elves aka the other choice.

wtf 70k lineman, but av 7?
Holy wow start with dodge and sprint? on a mv 8? Sprint? catchers?!
10k cheaper then pro elves...

90k for a plain thrower?

wardancer with BLODGE and leap? Leap wins you games. You can't reverse cage a leaper. It's to hard.
Treeman?

tips for wood elf: Ignore the treeman completely. I know, he's tempting, but unlike other big guys, he's kinda.... terrible. you may take him, if your plan is to throw guard on him and make him stand around.

I would say that Chaos doesn't START solid. They are kind of the High Elves of the bashing teams. Good stats on the players, great skill access, BUT you need to develop them. Which takes time. Which means you have to grind your teeth a lot and wait for that one day in the future when your team will shine. A developed Chaos team though is a force to be reckoned with.
