P1na: Also, I had a look at the thread you link. Your joke is about DRM and business practices, the thread goes sideways about how bad (or not) diablo 3 is. Bad focus there.
Well, they're just bad all around. Ultimately, I would have grudgingly forgiven their DRM crap if the game had actually run on the servers you were forced to play on, and if it were anywhere close to being the game that most of us thought we were going to get. The game that Diablo 3 was supposed to be was just about the only game that a lot of us would have compromised on the price tag and the DRM to get a chance to play.

I could have added a line about how they actually replace the working bulbs with broken ones.
avatar
Wishbone: Yup, that sounds about right. The only reason they're still in business is that at the end of the day, they do make kick-ass lightbulbs.
avatar
mothwentbad: Debatable. When I dug out D3 to remind myself why I'm not getting the expansion, I was surprised to find myself almost enjoying it.

And then I realized that there was enemy level scaling, and you can't even play a game that is as hard as Normal used to be until you hit 60 now. Then when you do play on Torment, you run around steamrolling trash mobs for hours, and suddenly a Vortex Waller Molten Mortar Frozen Desecrator grabs you from a screen away and puts you in a death box, and there's jack shit you can do as a player other than hope you brough l33t g34rz, an invincibility, and a teleport. :-P

Or you can kite them with hydras from *two* screens away, just barely beyond the range of Vortex.

The only reason I bought D3 in the first place was because I honestly expected a kick-ass lightbulb, in spite of their well-established record of installing DRM in your bumhole. What I got was the shell of a good game with 2 seconds of latency, the least interesting skill system I've seen in years, and monster affix balance that looks like a bad fan patch.
You're probably right. I didn't get D3 myself due to the DRM, so Blizz may indeed have gone downhill quality-wise, or at least have shifted focus towards "console-ized gameplay", which is the same thing in my book, but I recognize that this is more a matter of personal preference.

I did enjoy the SC2 campaign, myself. Then again, I played the "DRM-free" version, so I don't know how annoying battle net can get.

And I've heard a lot of complaints about D3 among my friends, but I really don't like those kinds of games so I never bothered with it.
Diablo III was pretty bad. I don't think I even completed it - once I got to heaven, I got extremely bored. Or wait, I think I DID complete it - the ending was just so bad I can barely recall it.

But yeah, poor game on so many levels.

Oh. I haven't touched Star Craft 2 yet. I sort of liked SC1 even though I sucked at it. I got halfway through the campaign and then hit a wall/got distracted.

I would have to hear amazingly wonderful things about SC2 to even give it a glance, and all I've heard so far was that they didn't run it into the ground. Plus, I dislike the "how fast can you interface with 100 different things" aspect of RTS. MOBAs show some promise, but it takes a lot to get me to risk face-tanking the bad attitude of general pvp.

I find MOBAs pretty boring, but that's just me. RTS, they can be fun, and I enjoyed the storyline on Starcraft. I also liked how you could upgrade your army along the campaign, the downside being that half the maps were almost tutorials for a specific unit. The whole "we'll divide it in 3 and sell you in parts" thing really annoyed me though.

Give it another shot with the new Patch and ROS expansion, they fixed many issues

The question is, whether it will work this late into the game. The economy of the game revolved around the screwed up loot system and the auction house and I wonder how the updates will have managed to impact it.
Haven't played D3 yet. StarCraft 2 was great though. They earned a lot of good will from me with Warcraft 1, 2, 3, Starcraft 1, 2 and the first two Diablos. I'm not a big anti-DRM person either, though, so I can certainly understand some of the animosity from that. They do themselves some DRM.

Ah, this game... haven't played it since... lemme see... lol

Once upon a time there was a car driving through the desert containing 3 engineers, one from a construction company, one from a petrochemical company and one software engineer from Microsoft.
After a while the car stopped for no apparent reason and refused to run anymore.
The engineer from the construction company said that he would take a look at the engine to see if something was wrong with the ignition or whatever.
The engineer from the oilcompany said that he would take a look at the fuel itself and fuel delivery system to see if something was wrong with that.
The Microsoft engineer said: "Why don't we open the windows and close them again and see if that fixes the car."

It is easier to be genuinely funny when you're not frustrated. :-/
Path of Exile is a way better game and its free. It is a diablo style game.

If you haven't heard of it or tried it, give it a shot, there is nothing to lose. It costs nothing.

They release weekly or bi weekly patches with new uniques and skills or other stuff and major content updates every 4 months. There are 3 acts right now and they plan to release a new act every year.

except to the difficulty and item drops which were totally screwed, i think D3 was pretty good for that sort of game. Just way too easy and useless drops. that was ofcourse when it was released. I think ill try out the expansion eventually.
