skeletonbow: I wouldn't be surprised if they repackage them and throw them up on Steam or somewhere though too as a retro game to regenerate more money from them sometime, or even here on GOG. Lots of people would probably pay $2-7 or so for them for nostalgia.
Actually the first two GTA games have been available on Steam for some time (WHILE being available for free from the page you linked to), I still have them in my library, although they seem to have disappeared from the store for some reason (probably the same one that killed the Rockstar Classics). But I don't care, the "optimization" mentioned on the Classics page is one fat lie, both the Classics and the Steam release of GTA1 was one disgusting abomination.

tinyE: Side Note, a few years ago Rockstar released GTA 1 and 2 free as a promo; I got them but that was for an older computer which is probably in a landfill now. Was that a temp think or are there still options for that?

Albeit, I wasn't really interested in GTA 1-2 (of which I have also retail CDs, but I don't like the topdown GTA games), but Wild Metal Country.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say they probably had compatibility issues with greater than a certain percentage of customers and weighed the profit brought in from Steam against the cost of fixing the bugs and possibly decided it wasn't worth it and dumped it. Another possibility could be some licensing issue or legal problem. Hard to say though.

The 1st two did kind of suck if for no other reason is the missions were too long to not have any save option. GTA 3 and on have safehouses and (with a few exceptions) moderately sized missions so you don't spend all day replaying a 45 minute sequence just to save your stupid game.

amok: Blizzard is starting giving away some classic games for free.

The first game is from 1994, with [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Vikings]Lost Vikings and Rock n'roll racing rumored to be following soon.

If you have a Battle.net account you can now download Blackthorne by going to the Download Game Clients section on your account page. On the bottom of the Download Page there is now a section called Classic Games, and Blackthorne is there.

If you are from other parts than US it may not be active yet, but this is resolved by logging into your account at us.battle.net instead.
That's cool. Thanks for sharing the news.

I hope they do Warcraft and Warcraft II. That would be niceness.

Compared to the GTA3 series, they were shorter, but funnier, especially if gun action really annoys one pretty fast.

It's very possible that I removed the .exe file from inside a ZIP when I downloaded it and installed it quite some time ago. I don't think I touched GTA2 though.

Holy shit, I seemed to have pulled it off.

I went into the basement and dug up the pc we had when we first opened to keep reservations on there; it's windowsXP. :P So I got it hooked up and found GTA2 on there, put there for the times when I was stuck in the office when there was nothing to do but wait for people to check in. I snag a blank cd, zip the GTA2 folder, transfer, and now I have it on my PC.

Man....this game sucks.
