Hey all,
Blackguards the turn based rpg Daedalic Entertainment is making cropped up on early access on Steam.

I generally don't buy anything over $5 on steam but it looks good (M & M X legacy v Blackguards hmm. current feedback about blackguards in forum is fairly positive) and wondering if GOG will be getting this anytime in the future on release (looks like a end of Jan 2014 release)?.

I remember hearing about this. It looked badass. I'll probably hold off for a while though, since I recently bought Wolf Among Us and learned that I don't do well waiting for incrementally added segments.
im tempted.. I might get it once a few of the chapters are released.

It's VERY doubtful whether gog gets this as early as January. The reason, as always, is money.

Daedalic's aiming at selling this game full price in Germany, 44.95€ (=59$) for the retail no less. They're usually throwing their games at their international clients for pennies, but they can only do that on a platform that offers 'international pricing`if they'd still like to sell their games to German speaking countries for two and a half times the price.

Steam pulls off that bullshit, but gog.com does not. Consequently, as a US citizen you will probably be able to get this game off Steam in the 15 to 30$ range, but from Germany and Austria, Steam will sell for the full 44.95€ so retail sales are not undercut.

No idea when and if gog will get the game. But if they do, I'd rather not expect the German voices to be part of the deal.

On gog, they will rather piss and poop on the game so it's as unattractive to German customers as humanly possible. :(

with the release of the third chapter i decided to bite and get this. I really like the atmosphere and style.. it has a lot of nice little touches that games these days tend to lack.

Had a look at playthroughs...it looks simplistic... someone mentioned they didnt including stuff like flanking etc into the game....

Are they actually self publishing this game? (hadn't looked) . Yeah well... GOG has sold their stuff (sans german voice etc).. depends how long takes gog to get it here (dont really want to get it from steam....even if i can buy them from brazilian or ukraining traders....bit cheaper)

it starts out simplistic but it adds depth. For example, while it doesnt literally have flanking, characters have a limited number of times they can parry per round, and getting attacked seems to negatively impact your initiative, so getting surrounded is still very very bad. And also, while there arent attacks of opportunity, as long as you dont double move you can hold your action, adding good strategy to movement. Where it really seems to shine is the lots of terrain and interactive environment effects. Also, loot seems cool so far, with set items and some items that give usable combat powers.

Since they've delayed the gog release AND cut German voices from the self-published Goodbye Deponia, it doesn't really make a difference. Seems like they went "oh, Koch Media did it in Satinaav's Chains... GREAT IDEA LADS". It's... the castration of their choice.

They could put Blackguards on gog at 40, even 45$, it would be absolutely OK. But they're too darn afraid their international clientele would jump ship immediately.

I saw that too, that's why I decided to check and see if it would be released on GOG too. Hell, I wouldn't mind paying full price to get it here.

I'm really on the fence, and it's never the price. I don't much care about the language of the Dark Eye products, the language is uninventive anyway. It was a major cut for the last Deponia part, a detestable deculturisation of the product in fact.

What I've heard about Blackguards just doesn't sound good to me - the p&p system doesn't fit a CRPG, exploration is hardly existant and any kind of farming right out of the picture. Might be wrong here, but that really are things where an RPG should open up, and Daedalic seems to be stuck with the more narrow confines of an adventure game.
Too bad this game will probably come to GOG a month after Steam at least, if it even comes here at all, due to Daedalic having a regional pricing policy which makes even 18th century protectionism look modern
I swear i saw something that indicated it was out later this month....

Anywhere else, it probably is - or Daedalic and their publisher have decided that the German voice castration has worked out sufficiently for the Dark Eye games, Night of the Rabbit and Goodbye Deponia (i.e. completely quenched the German speaking customers' will to buy on this platform) that they'll give it a shot without the infantile month long gog penalty period.

It'll be good for a laugh though. With Steam having offered the game for 12.50$ a month before it's even out while German retail customers will undoubtedly be paying the full 45.00€ eventually, we'll have a great laugh again at Daedalic's cost again when they come out and whine how gog's international pricing stance would undercut German retail sales. Concentrated hypocrisy.

That's unfortunate. I didn't know our german brothers were getting shafted this hard.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dark Eye and Daedelic are both german so there should be no reason not to keep the language in the game.
I always thought publishers would embrace GOG's pricing due to the fact that we Europeans always end up with the whole "1 dollar equals 1 euro" conversion.
Oh well, we can always hope for the best.
