Yeah. I'm glad they weren't stupid about it, I was worried whether there would be a torrent or not. It downloaded lightning fast and I had it up and running in two hours. Torrents are awesome. I think mondo84 is just trying to avoid playing it. :P
Unfortunately, Black Mesa runs pretty shit even on my new laptop (My desktop is seriously outdated, and a friend has been letting me borrow their vastly superior laptop that they never really used until I can get a gaming rig of my own), so I'm going to be playing this their computer.
Unfortunately, he's playing X-COM: UFO Defense at the moment. It's fortunate that he's playing such a great classic, but it's unfortunate in that it means I don't know when I'm going to get my chance to play Black Mesa. ;_;
It ran choppy as all hell, and I gave up shortly after getting off the rail, but man, it's extremely impressive. My expectations were low, but it's very professional. They even put some fun achievements in there. I've been disappointed by more than my fair share of mods, even many critically acclaimed ones (God, I hated Azure Sheep. "What Blue Shift should've been" my ass. And Sven Co-op was a broken mess.) but if the rest of this game is as beautiful and lovingly crafted as the introduction I just played (slogged through at an unstable framerate of about 10-15 fps, and about 15-25 fps at ugliest settings), I think it'll have been worth the wait.

They've remade an epic game to a far higher standard. Even in spite of the fact that they didn't really need to spend much time creating anything from scratch and had a very solid foundation to work from, it's still a very impressive effort. It's not surprising that Valve took a personal interest in this one, even if we still don't really know if there was anything that came of that.

I have been pretty critical of the project in the past and I am happy to admit that I was wrong.

Is it a stand alone game that works without needing anything else, or is it just a half life 2 mod?

Can't wait to finish downloading. Although I wished I payed more attention and downloaded SDK source in advance.

Steam
the Source SDK 2007 which you can download for free from Steam (under Tools)
If you have that, all you need to do is download the mod and install it. You can then launch the game from your games library.

Will probably be downloaded and ready to play by tomorrow. But I just wanted to say that I adore the theme music.

Grrrrrr I can't decide either buy Half-Life 2 now and get this Mod or wait till it becomes a stand-alone game
