I just mean that if a thread is "low-rated" . . . most placed a -1. . . if high-rated . . . most placed a +1 . . . if the post is not rated . . . either not enough votes were placed to rate the post either way or . . . no one found the thread / post worth rating either way.

I don't think it matters if "everyone" votes. It's a simple system that takes X number of votes to up or down a thread. I feel no need to question it since it is a snapshot of community opinion at any given time. As with this post (assuming alts were not used to uprate) the community found a balance for the thread.

I don't judge down-repped threads any more than I do up-repped threads. What would I say "Oh, that thread should not be highly rated" and then start posting my dissatisfaction? Like it or not, the community determines what is acceptable using this system. Most never post, IMHO, they just rep up or down and move on.

First . . . this is a PUBLIC forum. Open 7 / 24 to all nations (most??) with all ages logging in. I can type profanity, post inappropriate images and make offensive threads as well as anybody, I'm especially good with profanity. I don't do any of these things on this company gaming forum because I respect that others would be offended by this behavior. If someone wants to go to a forum which is known to be all adults or the community accepts this behavior . . . feel free. Here you are standing down town at the international gathering place for gamers of all ages expecting to talk gaming.

Posting something that belittles ones own race would be inappropriate, IMHO, because it would offend someone, on a forum this big,wil l offend someone. Do what you wish in private or on forums where it is acceptable. Forcing a community this large to accept things not normally said, done, displayed, discussed etc, etc, in pubic is disrespecting the community . . . IMHO. Rarely do I post anything to condemn a post but . . occasionally I will participate in these discussions.

Here again, this is a PUBLIC forum. Someone WILL be offended others will be offended by your failure to understand that it is not appropriate. Not as a criticism but you more than most seem to be unaware of the vast number of members, completely oblivious to the ages especially, online at any given moment. If you do things that disrespect the community . . . on a daily basis . . . you will lose the respect of the community. You constantly want everyone to see your side but ignore the thousands of community members that hear and see this unwanted (in their opinion . . . like it or not) content. It's a two way street where members have a way (repping) to display their opinion without doing anything but clicking a button.

You rage constantly about your right to post anything you want. The community is raging back (often / sometimes) but you don't hear it only recognizing that your rep number is going down. Blaming the [insert group] rather than accepting that there is a limit and it is not stationary. This community is very forgiving but if you keep disrespecting them . . . you gonna be down repped . . . =)

I left the Bioware community after they announced the details on DA2 DRM. Never bothered to come back since then. But from what I remember, Stan End of line Woo was a good mod, at least in the times of the old forums, before EA turned them into a crappy social network.

Things seem so different now. And to think it were the Bio forums where I heard about GOG for the first time...

Well, that was lame. As others have said, there are much better (actually funny) examples of readings to be found on Youtube. That was just awful.

3. And I don't care if the community uses this system for fair reasons(most of the one you stated in fact). It's the trolls behind the woodwork that irk me...maybe a bit unreasonably but still they irk me.

4. I never said use profanity all the time if ever. I merely stated that slight things like this shouldn't be taken so harshly(imho....as no profanity was used, I think, and no one used any major racial slurs or threats.). I agree one should try to be as civil as possible if they can help it, but to me this is no worse than Chris Rock calling me a cracker on PG-13 rated(minus the swears) HBO specials.

5. Agreed to a point. It to me depends on the severity of what is said and the intent behind the words, not just the words themselves.....though I see some point to limiting the crudeness to rare occasions(special drunk threads, etc).

6. I try to be as civil as possible, and others like roman do too....but should we be expected to walk on eggshells the entire time we're here lest we hurt someone's feelings with a slight joke or blunt reply?

I am usually not oblivious to people's feelings or trying to be disrespectful. I just post as I feel from the heart according to my views/beliefs/etc most times, albeit a bit bluntly or crudely sometimes, but usually it is rare when I go too far off the beaten path. It may seem sometimes I am being rude for bad reasons but this is just how I am usually.

And again, I hear everyone's opinions.....some I agree with and follow and some I disagree with and don't follow. It's not like it goes in one ear and out the other without being processed or anything like that. As you said though it's a two way street. While this means I should be a certain way or as much so as possible, it also means people should be understanding if I don't stick to their ideals all of the time....this goes for others as well who "stray" from the other gogger's ideals. It is a compromise after all, right?

I only blame the rep trolls alot because it seems like whenever I bring them up some would say they weren't real, I was imagining them, etc...or it seemed like that was what they were saying....and I got fixated on that supposed being called "off my rocker" as to that issue and it stuck a bit with me sadly.
Me too. I was the class clown(who'da thunk it huh?) sometimes and also pretty smart in some subjects and helped the slower kids out with tutoring and had a good time overall.

Seriously? You'd might as well just drop all pretense and make the comparison to Nazi Germany, or Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge. Either way it trivializes the experience of the people who actually suffered under these regimes.

And in any case, it's a privately run and owned forum. If there really is a legitimate problem with the moderation guidelines/system they can just split off and make their own forum. I've seen it happen before, and successfully too.

Seriously, as a consumer I do NOT give a damn about "User Score" on Metacritic. The only score that influences me is the "Metascore", i.e., the aggregate score from professional reviews and critics.

User Scores on Metacritic = fanboys-with-no-life vs trolls-with-multiple-accounts. They are completely useless = trash. The best examples are how Sony fanboys would give low scores to Xbox exclusives, and Xbox fanboys would give low scores to PlayStation exclusives. That is how "User" Scores work.

I was going to write up my thoughts on racism and this thread, but then I noticed that it had changed to a discussion about the rep system.

@Gamerager I really think you need to let the whole "rep" thing go. You are someone who tends to very strongly state what you believe (which isn't always going to line up with what others believe). This isn't a criticism at all. Hell, it's how I tend to be as well (although I've gotten better at hiding it as I've gotten older). But it means that you have to accept that a lot of people are going to get their feathers ruffled, even if you don't think they have a right to. It doesn't mean that there's a conspiracy against you...just maybe that you've offended a lot of people. In this case, I can totally see why your posts got downrated. Doesn't mean I necessarily agree or disagree. But any hint of perceived pro-racism is going to get immediately pounced on by people. It's one of those "fad" offenses that everyone is obliged to feel strongly about. I don't think it's completely fair to call this evidence of foul play.

And I agree that it's not possible to keep from offending everyone. Nor is it fair for people to expect that. But if you're anything like me (and I think you are), I suspect the problem isn't that you don't know what will offend people--it's that you get enjoyment and/or power out of offending them.

Basically there may or may not be a group of people dedicated to keeping your rep in the negatives. But I don't think it's fair to blame your downreps on that, when your posts are pretty obviously something that isn't going to go down easily with a lot of people.

Or have I completely misunderstood what is being discussed? (That happens a lot)
