I don't get it - where in the OP video was any banning mentioned?

I long ago realized that disagreeing with you was pointless. I'm not painting you any way at all just saying you defend any post that is down-repped regardless of how many times someone explains why it was offensive. Few will bother to engage you since you will not acknowledge any logic or explanation given by the community member who tries to give you some input.

Yes you are free to accuse anyone of anything. Doing so does not make it so. Nooo, you can't stop anybody from posting anything on this forum, nobody can. Few bother to voice their opinions about what is appropriate on this forum due to the attacks for doing so . . . they simply downrep what they don't like and move on.

Please continue to defend just as others will defend their right to find something offensive by downrepping. Why would you be deciding what is unfair / fair downrepping? I would think the community would determine that and be reflected in the status of the thread. I wouldn't consider changing the community opinion about a thread even if I could

I defend it because I found their reasons to be inane/silly/etc to me in general as a rational human being. And you are free to disagree with me all you like, as I am to with you. Isn't that how debates work?

As for no one acknowledging me it's because I don't buy into most of their explanations(again due to my pov and what I know)....why would I agree with people and take their views non things if I don't agree with them? How does that make sense?

And i'm deciding what's fair downrepping by my own standards and moral system....and some basic overall universal standards of what seems fair or unfair to downrate.

As I said before, I don't care if people downrep because of content if it's fairly done or against something that's majorly offensive(overall) but to me this is not that offensive....and before you say well to the community it is offensive note I am not the only one here who said this. Also voting on content is one thing, voting based on certain users posting certain content(which I know some do here) is another. Just clarifying my position and some points.

Probably not, but break out ANY white guy(or gal) doing a funny minority impression and call out the no fun police, or so it seems sometimes.

Funny thing is, I watch plenty of comics(many minority) ones which i'm guessing many here would love(and possibly watch) who talk like this all the time.
OP post is a joking parody post of a moderator on Bioware forums who is korean(hence the funny speaking) and loves to ban on ANY dissent about bioware games. Even legitimate complaints about a game's quality. Some of the speech mannerisms in the joke also highlight his way of writing his posts(Like end of line at the end of the paragraph as if he was a total badass.)

The major problem with this line of thinking is that not everyone will bother replying in the thread. In fact, it's quite possible that most who did find it offensive simply clicked the minus and moved on, which was the full extent of their interaction with the thread. You cannot determine how many people found it offensive or not from the replies, that's a deeply flawed method. Also, no one here has the slightest idea how many lurkers there are on this forum who never ever post but may up and downrep to their heart's content.

In the end, all we know for sure is that more people clicked the minus than the plus. Which isn't enough data to form any kind of conclusion, really. I think the best way to deal with the whole issue is to chalk it to different strokes and different folks and move on. Everything else is pure guesswork, and definitely not worth getting upset about.

This is where we disagree. Your opinion does not outweigh any other community members opinion. Nor does mine or anyones. The community ( yes, I do think everyone votes not a minority as you imply) decides and reps according to each individuals take on a post. You seem to feel a need to impose your point of view on the community and refuse to allow the community to decide for themselves.

Fortunately, unless your gaming the system with alts, you nor I can change the communities take on how appropriate or offensive a thread is.

Agreed that we can't know the ratios. I even posted as such above.

Also we can';t know how many lurkers/trolls/etc there are but I know there are some at least. And I sadly(don't do it anymore just saying) know from experience that it doesn't take many to downvote something into the minus so while the theory that it's just normal posters downrating is valid somewhat so is mine. In fact it's probably a bit of both.

I'm not that upset....it's just it irks me to know there are some of those people out there. I dunno if you can get what i'm driving at here or where i'm coming from or not.
I don't care if other fairly decide for themselves whether to like or dislike something(uprate or downrate even) ....it's the ones trolling the system to shun certain posters posting certain content(the few that do) that I take issue with.

I haven't been using alts since the last 4 months or so(since I left before coming back)......we don't know if anyone else is however.

To all: All in all tell me this, why are some people who post memes/offcolor humor not downrated as much as others if most here are merely downrating stuff they find offensive as has been claimed? Why the discrepancy? If it's mainly people downrating stuff they find offensive then we should see people equally being downrated for similar content or starting similar threads but we don't. Why?

I agree, everyone should decide for themselves and . . . it seemed that most found the thread offensive to one degree or another. Now . . . it seems they don't as the thread is neutral.

It never occurs to me that anything is happening other than a very large, active, international community is casting votes as to what is acceptable on their game forum. I don't always agree with either side, by sides I mean the implied "police" and those that want the forum to be more naughty. I didn't necessarily find the thread over the top offensive but more of a thread that was not necessary as it belittled a segment of the community . . . I also have many Asian friends so I might find it to be a belittlement of Asians more than others.

Shall we ridicule / belittle Polish?, Italians?, Americans? etc. etc. tomorrow? I had rather not personally though I assume there are many who would find it humorous and . . . they will be downrepped I'm sure . . . it's bound to happen when basic respect of other community members is trampled on or ignored. If you see the same kind of threads / content ALWAYS downrepped . . . it's probably not wanted by the majority of members.

The rep system here seems like a religion for certain people in here. Seriously, is it THAT important? All the "discussion" about + rep, -rep, massive down rep, whatever rep look pointless to me.

The prime objective of the whole system is to give to the community a way to determine what is appropriate or not, as some gogers previously said. Abusing the system in whatever way is just plainly immature... and a bit sad.

Concerning the first post... well, I frowned at it and found it a bit annoying. Was it really necessary to post some cheap "angry bad english speaking japanese stereotype" joke to illustrate the badly moderated Bioware forum?
You can't seriously blame people to down-rep this if they feel offended.

Like a lot of internet communities, the biggest part of the GOG community is the silent one, completely ignoring the forum (except when sh** happens) or "quietly" browsing it without posting anything. If they find something annoying/offending/non appropriate, it is just natural to press the "minus" button and move on to another topic.

Not to nitpick but don't you mean most who VOTED found it offensive or downvoted t for various reasons? As I said before not everyone votes, so we do't know if it's an accurate gauge of the community as a whole either way.

Let me pose this to you then....what if the op post belittled the ops own race? Does it make it less or more offensive then in your eyes? And why? Also why must everything be seen as rude, even if it's not? Why is that the default go to assumption most people hav when reading such to assume the worst?

Nothing, unless you push that button to abuse the forum systems for your own ends, to ostracise some forms of discussion you dislike or person you dislike. Then it becomes very wrong in my eyes and some others here.

When used normally I have no issues with it.
And what is life without a little drama? We are all human after all, and we have complex emotions bottled up inside us at all times....some are just better at holding them in and hiding them than others.

I hope people didn't forget that because of a ban on the forums you lose access to your EA/Bioware games.

So being trigger happy like this is being a class A prick.

Just one reason I don't see myself picking up any EA / Bioware game released after DA2 (and that one only if I see it on sale for <$5 on Steam)
