I wonder when we will see Bioshock 1 and 2 with all dlc's and patches applied, and without shitty games-for-windows crap :)

For now its a pain in the ass, installing bioshock 2.

Setup steam > download bioshock 2 > launch it and login into gfwl > download update > launch again > download dlc > play the game...



And yes, i understand that i'm just another crazy user who asks gog to release another-my-favorite-game

I'm second in line :) Bioshock release on GOG is my dream, and i believe we will see its release here.

It took me five minutes to install and sign in Bioshock 2 and have finished it 3 times. So what the problem is with GFWL I do not know.

AFAIK Bioshock 1 doesn't use GFWL, only 2. It's a nuisance. I "dealt" with it while playing Dark Souls, it was tolerable, but it's an unnecessary inconvenience. I don't mind Steam, but I get annoyed when I have to install anything else alongside it (e.g. GFWL, uPlay, etc).

It's well known to cause slowdowns and general instability/crashes, it's also been known to sometimes 'eat' saves, IIRC it also encrypts saves making them a pain to move about between systems etc. In short, it's unnecessary crapware.

This was a game that bit me because I trusted the company promise. I didn't buy the game with DRM, but someone bought it as a gift for me. I did a bit of research and found that they promised to remove the DRM after the game stopped selling well. So I kept it.

Well, that turned into, the DRM was removed server side... meaning you STILL have to connect to the internet to download the .exe every time you install the game. I have tried saving the .exe and it doesn't work. So this still functions just like product activation.

6 years later (and multiple sequels) and they still won't let go of a client side patch to remove the DRM.

On a run down xp machine maybe? I am being very serious when I say I have never eeeeever had that kind of problem with GFWL.

This was the game that began my hatred of DRM schemes. I bought it at release, then couldn't install it (just like many others) because the servers were overloaded (not a huge deal, but annoying). At the time I was also upgrading my machine, so after finally getting the game installed, I changed out some RAM, and added a hard drive. Result: locked out of the game (this was when there were only a couple activations). They promised a fix (I can't recall now for sure, but I believe it was a revoke tool), which they delivered but it didn't work for many people and I was one of them. In the end I was locked out of the game and unable to play it for months. By the time I could play it, I was no longer interested and pretty much was so pissed off at the game that I no longer even wanted to play it. To this day, I've not completed it, although I'll get around to it eventually.

But yeah, BioShock was the straw that broke the DRM camel's back for me.

I've never encountered slowdowns with GFWL games on any of my systems either, but then I can count on one hand the number of games I have that "require" it (and with those I used an offline profile & try to avoid interacting with it as much as possible). I have however had crashes and issues with savegames caused by it though - even on fresh installs (Win7 Ultimate x64 on i7-2600k, 8GB DDR3-1600 RAM, GTX570).

Fortunately, there are unofficial patches available to get rid of GFWL, just like there is for any other kind of DRM.

There's a patch that gets rid of GFWL for Bioshock 2? Why have I not heard of this?!

Looks like I have to wait until it's on GOG before they get my money...

I haven't had a issue with GFWL (unlike everyone else) but I would buy a DRM free version of the Bioshock games. I hope Infinite reaches that point one day.

Just out of curiosity, have 2K ever made any comments towards their stance on DRM? Besides, y'know, using it.
