This will likely happen more and more often as consoles dominate more and more, but then smaller companies might rise to take the place of the falling dominoes.
I always used EVGA anyway, and I know most of my online pals do the same.

BFG mainly made Nvidia cards, didn't they? I hope Sapphire don't decide to quit the graphics game soon.
Though I prefer ATI, it's sad to see a high-quality manufacturer quit.

BFG Technologies? Sounds like a company set on making and inproving the Big Fucking Gun from Doom series. Yeeeessssss....

Bit of a shame, really. BFG have always provided me with excellent service, admittedly I've had to RMA two cards, but both times I received a free upgrade.
Hopefully they'll continue to see profits from their other divisions.

You can probably trace BFG's falling profits to NVidia's loss of mainstream marketshare due to the success of AMD/ATI's recent cards. It's a shame as they really should have followed suit with companies like XFX and Gainward who started making both NVidia and ATI based card as they saw the way the wind was turning.
Off the top of my head I can only think of Zotac and EVGA as exclusive NVidia anymore. And I am not 100% sure about Zotac. EVGA will always have their loyal customer base and Motherboard sales to compensate for any GFX card losses.

The central problem here is that graphics card manufacturers have long been pushing their cards to completely unnecessary extremes. This goes double for BFG who spared no expense in pushing for even greater performance than stock cards. This was bound to catch up with them eventually. Especially seeing as the antiquated current gen consoles are retarding graphical development.

High end PC gaming hardware is a niche product.

That's a bugger, I always thought it amusing that your ingame BFG could be rendered by a BFG card.
Is there any differentiation (other than the sticker on the card) between the companies nowdays? I can't remember the last time I saw a geforce that wasn't the default nvidia card. It seems that even Leadtek and Gainward have stopped putting flashy heatsinks on their cards. Do they even bundle them with 3 year old games that don't show off the power of your extremely expensive new card anymore? I never see mention of that when browsing the options

What I meant was:
niche: high end pc hw
niche of the niche: "award-winning power supplies and gaming systems". They worked on numerous areas, and now will restrict to those two: specific PSUs and specific notebooks for rich guys.
So, what I finally meant is that it is hard to this company rise up again; or even another smaller take its place since the market conditions aren't that good and as an example one of the big guys (BFG) just happened to flop.

True... however, there is still money to be made in video cards, I just don't think BFG was getting it done. If EVGA ever announces this sort of thing I would be shocked.
Not saying it would be easy, but I don't think there will ever be no companies willing to sell high-end GPUs. Every niche, no matter how small, has someone serving it.

I should buy one of their last cards while I am at it.

I've heard good things about the BFG 9000.

Check the specs and benchmarks. There can be a quite substantial difference. Well, quite a substantial difference to someone buying an absolutely bleeding edge card for about three times as much as a card they actually would need to max current games out.
Although with BFG out of the picture, that does level the playing field quite a bit. I think there was one more that went quite a way about the stock, but I forget the name.
