I want to purchase Betrayal at Krondor. I have windows vista.
My problem is I have no computer "savy" so if I have to do anything but download it, (ex. change files, run other programs, download other programs, etc.) I'm not interested. Does anyone know if you are just able to download this game and play or is there more involved? I LOVE this game and would LOVE to play again.
Thank you in advance

I am currently playing it on windows 7 and have no trouble with it at all, therefore it should work on Vista as well. And the only problem I can think of would require just a few button presses I would be glad to lead you trough step by step if it occurs.
Oh and yeah, you just install and play it

Buy, download, install, play. Worst case scenario you have to run the launcher as administrator.
I'm going to echo everyone else here. All GOGs are "remastered" to play on modern OSs (XP and Vista), and Windows 7 compatibility is coming soon. It's purely a download and it works service. It's pretty sweet.
Thanks OP as well as folks who answered. I am considering getting this game, I never had a chance to play it when it initially launched. Good to know it works on Win7.
Thank you to all that have answered.
I have seen in some places that people are having trouble after they download the game that they are getting messages that they do not have enough memory. Has this happened to anyone who had downloaded from this site?
Thanks again for you help.

Those people were probably running it in NTVDM in Windows which has nowhere near as much conventional memory as DOSBox does.
Before DOSBox came along you had to REM out the DOSX.exe in AUTOEXEC.NT to free up enough memory to run Bak.
I don't have DOXBOX, if I download this game from this site, will I need to download that too?
I've also seen some people talking about needing to download as an "administrator". What does that mean?
Thank you again

The game comes prebundled with DOSBOX.
As I said earlier; buy, download, install, play. Run as administrator is a Win7 / Vista feature where some programs will not start unless run with administrator privileges. Since this may not be the default launch settings for the program, you have to specify it manually. It's as easy as right-clicking and selecting "run as administrator" from the menu.
Although, with a game that runs through DOSBOX I don't think it's going to be necessary.
ok stonebro, you've convinced me....but....
I am trying to download, it is asking me
Download using browser
or add to downloader
I chose download using browser, then it asks me, run or save? Which one do I want?
Did I mention I'm NOT computer savy? ;-)
Thanks in advance!

You can either run or save it. If you run it it will install right away. If you save it watch which folder it saves it to, then you will go to that folder to run the setup file to install the game.
I picked this one up last night and started playing it a bit, the graphics in the world are a bit dated, but the writing is excellent.
You should never choose "RUN". Always choose SAVE and then scan it with an av/malware scanner. That's still not 100% safe but it's better than the first option. Ideally you'd upload to an online av/malware scanner that uses multiple engines but that's not really realistic with big downloads.
At work we have policies setup where if a user hits "Run" (which they loooovee to do) then it won't work (If it's in our list of extensions) because our policy doesn't allow it. :D

I have downloaded the game, and a tear came to my eye when I saw Gorath, Owen & Sir What's his name again. LOL
Alas, real-life intrudes and I don't have to play at the moment, but thanks to everyone for your help!

Any decent AV, if you have it installed properly, will scan files both when you're downloading and when you're opening/running them.
Well, files downloaded from GOG won't have viruses in them.
