Darvond: Sorry. Its just that Bethesda is less than great when it comes to mechanics, but great for story. They'd make good movies and books. Games, not so much. :L

StingingVelvet: Hmmm, I would say the exact opposite honestly.

The Elder Scrolls and Fallout 3 succeed mostly on exploration, loot discovery and open world gameplay. Most Bethesda dialogue is kind of shit, honestly. The lore can be good sometimes, it depends on the game, but story isn't really their strong suit IMO. Even their successful published games outside the dev studio, like Dishonored for example, seem more gameplay focused to me.

Fallout: New Vegas, by Obsidian, focused more on story and dialogue and was criticized for it by Bethesda's more traditional fans.
Wait, am I entirely mixed up? Who made Bioshock Infinite?

2K games. Bethseda's recent lineup is:
The Elder Scrolls games (Developed by Bethseda)
Dishonored
Fallout 3 + New Vegas (F3 was developed by Bethseda)
Rage

As far as I'm concerned, all of those were damn great games - Rage being the weakest of the bunch, IMO. However, Dishonored was my GOTY of 2012.

As for Bioshock Infinite, I have actually put quite a bit of thought into it and no, it really wouldn't work quite as well in a movie / book format. You have to realize how well did that game use storytelling devices specific for videogames, especially exploration and enviromental storytelling. As a movie, the story would not be nearly as strong as it was in a videogame.
Yeah Bethesda make great games, even Oblivion is good just disappointing. I just wouldn't call them story focused.

Bioshock Infinite is pretty story focused. Still it depends a lot on exploration and combat as well. I think all three aspects of it are good. I don't understand why people bash the combat. Bioshock's combat is ten times better than Call of Duty combat.

Proper health system, more than 2 weapons, leaning... Looks promising
That does look very interesting and better than expected

Lol at all dat "zomg ebil nazis" emotioneering. Like Wolfenstein was ever about a story. Putting these forced stories into about mindless shooting is the definition of fail.

No one understands anymore what made the old shooter good

doccarnby: So, when can I preorder this? Because I love me the shit out of the Wolfenstein series.
Looks like pre-order is available http://www.wolfenstein.com/preorder

tryingnewstyle: They should focus on single player and skip multiplayer completely. The last wolfenstein had problems because it faced a long legacy of the RTCW and ET multiplayer that it had to compete against. When that Wolf MP demo leaked people quickly saw how crappy it was, and the game suffered. Didnt help that the company that made the MP was fired right after the game was shipped.

johnki: Speaking of ET, anyone still play that? Might be a good way to kill time. I know the community for the original Red Orchestra is still pretty large, so I figure it's not too out there to assume ET still has players.
I know several people who still regularly play ET, and have a local lan party for ET players and some Quake games and what not. Haven't installed it myself on my latest PC; but, it's easy to do and still fun for a class based, objective map, team shooter.

Damn, never knew there was such a big market for that game. I never new it had LAN Play in it or even that they ported it from the Atari 2600. I'm in, pass the Reese's pieces.

The first couple days I was looking for it on Amazon by searching for Wolfenstein. Turns out I needed to search for Wolfenstein: The New Order. I preordered a long time ago. ;)

Ugh, yeah. Nevermind then.
Short version: Cutscene after cutscene after cutscene after cutscene. Great gameplay, but level design completely obliterates it. Preview version at any rate.

So the "no health regen" thing wasn't actually true.

Well a bit of a hybrid system, it wouldn't bother me actually if it regenerated to some low value like 30 or so - 60 sounds way too high. There were many FPS games I have played the most of at 60 or so health.

I kind of wish more games did what the new Shadow Warrior does - you have an ability which allows you to regen your health, but it takes time, and totally disarms you and makes you voulnerable for that period. Now that's a good mechanic. That actually makes the game more complex, and fights more varied.
