I'm looking for a new game to play, have already played BG1/2, and Fallout. Looking for any recommendations, but mostly prefer an rpg type setting(doesn't need to be full out rpg). The combat doesn't need to be the strongest point, but I'm just looking for a deep game world that you can get immersed in.

Thanks
Planescape: Torment. The depth and originality of its setting is unmatched in gaming.
Planescape: Torment,
The Witcher (it's based on book series)
Betrayal at Krondor (based on book series as well)

anyway, of all above, Witcher's world was the most immersive IMO, very, very closely followed by Planescape.

Guess I forgot to add that I beat both Witcher 1/2 as well, and played Planescape: Torment but didn't end up beating it. I got far but exams came around and I lost interest. Really don't feel like getting back into that one at the moment.
Well, if you are looking for something new and shiny. Mass Effect has one of the best thought out science fiction settings. The in game codex alone could keep you reading for hours. You actually get the feeling you are part of a world, and not that the world was created for you.

I was going to immediately say Betrayal at krondor, but then thought folks would laugh because it's such an old game. Thank you. Now I can second that thought.

Betrayal at Krondor. IMO one of the best all time. Planescape is good to, a little different perhaps, but very, very good.
The Gothic series (minus Arcania).
Planescape torment it´s a masterpiece... But sometimes it looks like an interactive novel.

Grandia 2 has a really crazy story
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. One of the best games ever in my opinion, partly due to the immersive world. The only trouble I have is that I daren't begin a new game because I know I'll end up using pretty much my every moment awake on it.

Another very, very good one. I really loved 1 and 2. And I especially loved how 2 took up where 1 left off with many of the same characters, even in the same voices.

And the graphics on that one aren't nearly as bad as Betrayal at Krondor (which look absolutely DREADFUL on a large screen, so bad it's unplayable in fact.)

Heh, I think you may throw away your fears carried over from other boards, after all we ARE on a site called 'Good old Games' :D

Nah, I find Krondor ecellent at supplementing one's own imagination. Graphics are basic, but you get a lot of descriptions and dialogue besides that, so it's not all that bad.

+1 for Mass Effect (and it's sequel). Mass Effect 3..... I dunno. Play the first two, and if you don't get sucked into the universe and feel it's one of the greatest, most comprehensive Sci-fi gameworlds ever then you're probably safe to play the third one.

At the risk of being a little controversial, Guild Wars has a great world and can easily be played as a solo RPG.
Arcanum has a pretty good setting as well.

Thing with ME setting is that it's basically a generic fantasy setting with everything, right down to magic (when you don't know how can something work, you can bet it's some use of dark matter or mass field or whatever). All that is somewhat different is art style and instead of countries you get to travel planets, and instead of swords you use rifles.
