tinyE: Ever see "Good Will Hunting" where he tells him off for knowing about all that stuff but never actually having been to see them in person? Yeah, that's me.

OH SHIT!
No! No no no no no! XD It never occurred to me that it would seem I was intimating that. Oooops! :O

No I was simply commenting that like him I've studied all of that stuff and written papers on them, and talked and talked and talked about them, but in the end it's somewhat phony because the closest I've ever been to any of them is a art history text book.

Personally I preferred the sequel "Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season" but that's kind of off topic.
That's a nifty sword handle, thanks!

When I was last in the Louvre, I was overwhelmed by the amount of visitors ruthlessly documenting the entire museum. They'd go from work to work, photographing each carefully (often pushing in front of me to do so), but they wouldn't otherwise actually look at the work. The whole museum was seen only through a viewfinder. This is common enough at art museums around the world, I find, but for some reason, it's taken to extremes at the Louvre. Still, I'm happy enough for them to enjoy themselves, I just don't understand it. I wonder if it's still the same.

I remember the Musee D'Orsay being much more relaxed.

MasodikTiasma: I've just seen this sword on a statue of the god Mars at the Musée du Louvre, Paris.

Wouldn't it be great to see this in a video game? I want this sword in Dark Souls 2! Or Witcher 3! Or Divinity: Original Sin!

Let me know what you think of it, and do tell about your favorite ornate swords! :-)
I want this sword in real life. It calls to me...
Sword: *blergh*

Keeps enemies completely baffled until you have the time to cut off their heads.
Meh, swords...

How utterly boring, I want a spoon as weapon!

To quote infamous Alan Rickman:

It's dull, it'll hurt more
Nah, the two-handed swords in Dresden's Ruestkammer were more impressive. You could run those things through a horse. Lengthways.

An ages old classic, beware of posting that more than three times or it will start to haunt you as well...
Talking about fictional swords, i suppose my favorites are:

1) Gut's 'Dragon Slayer' from Berserker
pic

...nothing subtle about that one, i bet it would look ridiculous in any other context, but Guts is just that badass. Seriously. Just read the manga.

2) Elric of Melnibonê's Stormbringer (Michael Moorcock)

Runic demonic sword that kills Gods and eats the souls of its victims? Yes please. Read the novels for description :)

----

On RL side of things there are great many swords - but apparently looking like heavy metal singer makes you decent at "chopping" as well.
That looks like it would fit right in shivering isles. I agrees with the head shooting fire.

I like many sword mostly long swords and claymores. There are some interesting designs in the Final Fantasy series like Tournesol http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/archive/f/f8/20130704231523!Tournesol-ffxii.png from FF 12. The other side has a sun.

OP that is pretty cool looking.

LMAO I was about to post here, and you took both my choices, Dragonslayer from Berserk is one of my favourites, as well as Stormbringer (along with Eternal Champion's gear) (Yeah I'm a Michael Moorcock fan).

However, to list some not here, I also like:

Conan's sword
Conner MacLeod's Claymore
Ramirez's Katana
He-Man's Power Sword
The Powersword and Starsword from Blackstar
Kenshin Himura's Katana
Jin and Mugen's Swords from Samurai Champloo
Vicious' Katana from Cowboy Bebop
Momotaros' Sword from Kamen Rider Den-O

There are more, but those are just off the top of my head. :)
One more vote for Stormbringer here! Awesome sword! :-)
Sword in the original post does very little for me - just the boggest of bog-standard swords with a carved pommel. Meh.

I'm rather partial to Soul Edge:

Or of course the lightsabre...

"You're just no good, Will Hunting"
The best thing about watching Good Will Hunting is understanding that Jay and Silent Bob scene a whole lot more afterwards!
