hedwards: The license covers the period of time they're expecting to be selling the games. And extending it in perpetuity would be a lot more expensive.
Wishbone: True, but it does mean that those games come with a built-in expiration date. Once that is up, those games can never be sold legally again, ever.
There's a recipe for piracy if I ever saw one.
No argument there, the industry is rather notorious for failing to plan for the future.
timppu: I'd really like to have those Codemasters racing games back (yes I realize they are not coming back, due to stupid license thingies and stuff). Too bad I apparently joined GOG after they were removed from the catalog.
Very nice to have GRID here, though. That I already have. Racing games are the kind of games that IMHO age badly, so usually newer is better (unless the game has been dumbed down since the old versions).
Yes, but OTOH, running over the horse never gets old.
I do wish they'd experiment more with hidden paths and easter eggs. One of my disappointments with the genre is that few games have really taken to offering short cuts and such when having people racing through town. I think Big Red Racing had the best short cuts, the ability to take those fucking airboats off track and onto the land was fucking epic.
