I have big hands so the Logitech layout works well for me. The Xbox controller's buttons are too crowded.

I'd have to agree. Melts right into your hands.

Gaunathor: The Logitech F310 is pretty good. I've been using mine since last December and never had any problems.
how are your triggers? I think they're a bit too awkward to keep pushed in, it starts hurting my fingers after a while. Kind of not-awesome when I'm playing Assassin's creed or something.

The D-Pad is nice tho.
I like my Logitech F510 quite a lot, but I'll be waiting for the new console controllers to come out as potential upgrades. Both are said to be rather good.

I'm using the F710 but I haven't had trouble with the triggers (other than wanting to push trigger + shoulder button together). Are you using the index or the middle finger for the triggers?
Supposedly the Logictech F-series gamepads have a "deadzone":

Xbox controller is the clear choice. Most games treat is at THE controller for PC, so unless you want to give yourself a ton of hassles for no reason I would go with the flow.

If that is true you shouldn't buy it, though Logitech's profiler software allows for deadzone adjustment and these videos might just be somekind of scam.
Maybe someone on the forums who has this pad can confirm/refute this.
XD Even after my other post I am very seriously considering the Xbox now. My Logitech still works but the Xbox is only $35 bucks and that combined with the reviews here and there I think I may have to switch.

I take it the wired version is standard USB plug in? I never get very far away from my pc when playing so I really don't need the wireless.

I just picked one of these up a few weeks ago. The really cool thing about it is that there is a switch on the back to have it use DirectInput or Xinput. Flip it one way and every game recognizes it as an Xbox controller. For older games that don't support the Xbox controller I just flip the switch and it works.
Since I hate the shape of the 360 controller because I simply don't get it, I use a Logitech F310.

I plan to use a PS4 controller should they be compatible.

Index. But i'm used to an x360 controller which does not give me that problem. The problem is that the x360 controller has a crappy D-pad IMO.
If you're a cheap bastard who already has a PS3 like me, then use the Dualshock, it works with no extra cost.

If you have nothing, then buy the Xbox 360 gamepad.
You are able to switch from Xinput to the older Dinput format, with the Logitech pads, which is very handy for many of the games here on GOG. So, bare that in mind.

It took me a while to get used to them at first, but that is probably because I never used a gamepad before. Now I have no trouble with them at all. Neither in Overlord, nor in Psychonauts. Only the camera is sometimes in the way. I hate it when that happens.
