No, it's made by Popcap and I don't think you could call them Indie.

I would. They develop games which they fund and publish themselves, and aren't to my knowledge owned by another bigger company or anything - they're about as independant as you get. But it's all about what your definition of the word is, really.

True, it's notoriously difficult to define. By your standards Telltale Games would be indie? They're definitely not by mine.
Just want to bump this post, cus I'd like to see some more suggestions.

I would recommend anything from potato sack.
AI war: Fleet Command (great RTS)
M&B: Warband (amazing mods & multiplayer)
Greed corp (surprisingly catchy and fast)
Eschalon Books (very anti-bioware and bloody awesum)
and i realy like Lugaru (kung-fu rabbits)
In addition to the many greats already mentioned, I'd add (or, in case I just missed them, repeat) the Puppy Games catalogue - Ultratron, Titan Attacks, Droid Assault and Revange of the Titans.

Also, http://db.tigsource.com deserves a mention. Of course, if someone is aware of an even better resource, I'd love to know about it.
This needs bumping!
Valve are a pretty good indie developer as is Cactus.
I don´t know if this qualifies, but Armada 2526 with the Supernova expansion is a great 4X- (Indie)game.

Easy to learn but very deep and rewarding.
At present, I am finding a lot of fun in Terraria.
Haven't played a lot of indie games.. Well propably few adventures. But there was somewhere in the past a small rpg which was quite good. Dink Smallwood.
And haven't played Broken sword 2.5. But I think that qualifies as indie game.
Amazing game is Project Zomboid http://projectzomboid.com/blog/ I heard only good things about it.
