For me, it's World of Goo. I don't know how they did it, but everything about that game feels just right.

Just no. Gratuitous Space Battles > Din's Curse and Amnesia. They are good games but if you want a highly polished Indie game that Stardock would be proud to produce then it's GSB.

I'd be careful with GSB, it's definetely not for everyone. Like, it's not for me for example. Played the demo, totally didn't dig the game. Reviewers also had mixed feelings about it, if I remember correctly. So it's very much hit-or-miss.
MOUNT AND BLADE!

Haven't played Gratuitous Space battles
This thread cannot end well... :)
I just checked the demo for Din's Curse out. I think I'd recommend that almost indie Deathspank over it. So, Amnesia, Deathspank, Mount&Blade:Warband(extensive mod community for it) or Psychonauts would be my recommendations.
My favorite is Aquaria. LOVE metroidvania style games and it was just breathtaking. Great music, fun unique gameplay and really cool graphical style.
Well, the main problem is how to ask him if he would like GSB, but I guess I can always get him MaB...any tips where to get it cheaply then 30 euros?

There's really quite a few of them. Torchlight, Penumbra, Amnesia: TDD, World of Goo, Machinarium, Notrium, Super Tux and Gish all spring to mind.

But, best is really a challenge, we're fortunate enough to live in a time when there's a lot of really good indie games out there, just not necessarily with the marketing to really make finding them easy.

Wha?!? I got my copy for 10USD in a Steam sale. I've seen it for almost that cheap on Gamersgate. There are two similar games: Mount&Blade and Mount&Blade:Warband. Warband has MP and some additional content. Taleworlds' website is: http://www.taleworlds.com/ Go to moddb.com and see what other mods he may also be interested in, for that may determine which one you get. There's a Warhammer mod for the first one, although I believe most modders are migrating to M&B:Warband.

EDIT: Mount&Blade:Warband is listed at 21.41Euros or 521.21 Korunas on Taleworld's website as a download. And you can use Cesky(sorry, my damn American keyboard doesn't have the mark above the C).

+1!
Don't be fooled by the graphics, it gets quite dark and challenging. It's a brilliant game, the sort in which absolutely everybody can find something to enjoy and love.

As for others - I absolutely loved Mr.Robot and VVVVVV. VVVVVV offers some real challenge but is immensely satisfying.

Guess I shouldn't mention Braid? :) Also check defense grid, sol survivor and misadventures of p.b.winterbottom. I would recommend saira too, but seems that one is not for everybody (supposedly "too hard" and lonesome, which I don't agree with).

Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space
the sequel to
Strange Adventures in Infinite Space

both are excellent games with a decent amount of modding done for them too.

Torchlight would be a nice game, if the game lasted for like only one hour. It is fun, really, but after that hour, it is basically the same thing over and over again. Literally. :/

Also, the game is being supported by publisher from China, I think, so its not an indie title anymore.
