keeveek: For me, the best indie game is BRAID. Great platformer, with many clever ideas for gameplay, and touching and inspiring story.
avatar
Bodkin: Yeah... i don't like it. Spelunky is better platformer :)
How about Spelunky's story?

Because for me, BRAID's story was the main motor for the gameplay. The gameplay was a result of a story.

And the ending.. touching, in many ways..

jlg6184: At present, I am finding a lot of fun in Terraria.
As am I. :)
Has anyone mentioned Amnesia: The Dark Descent?

Glad to know I am not the only one. I won it in a contest, figured "oh look, someone wants to be like Minecraft." Boy was I wrong. Minecraft needs to be more like Terraria.

SirPrimalform: Hohohoho, good one.

evilguy12: They are independently funded and are not owned by a larger company. Sounds pretty independent to me.
They are a larger company. As KavazovAngel said, by that definition EA are independent. Valve run Steam for god's sake, they're basically a huge publisher.

I think he was sarcastic in regards to this:

eyeball226: No, it's made by Popcap and I don't think you could call them Indie.
avatar
Barefoot_Monkey: I would. They develop games which they fund and publish themselves, and aren't to my knowledge owned by another bigger company or anything - they're about as independant as you get. But it's all about what your definition of the word is, really.

Aningan: ...
I dunno... seemed pretty serious to me.
Did anyone mention Dink Smallwood? What a great little RPG. It’s also free to play.

Eeee... missing? :) It is pure gameplay, it doesn't need help from story.

Several times.

KavazovAngel: EA are indie too.
EA are a publisher. Valve don't publish. They distribute. They develop. But no publishing. Even the physical copies of their own games are published by EA.
VVVVVV was easily my favourite game of 2010, indie or not.

Minecraft and Terraria are both a blast, especially if you throw a few friends into the mix.

Been enjoying Capsized recently, a great action-adventure in the mold of the classic BBC Micro game "Exile".

Valve sure do publish indie games on Steam. At least, they advertise it that way.

They distribute them. Typically no publisher is listed on indie game pages.
