First of all, thanks in advance!

I need to compare pictures between different directories with the option of not comparing the pictures of each directory internally, only against the other one, to get rid of those pesky similar images of lower quality.

I'm using a program called "Image Comparer", but it lacks certain essential options, for example, to see the picture A and B extended to full screen consecutively (in that way it's easy to see any difference in quality, color, minor changes, etc). Also, with this program it's necessary to make several passes until it stops detecting similar pictures, and even so leaves out many duplicates. And it's unable to make heads or tails regarding to B&W drawings...

So, in your expert opinion, what are the best programs (Win XP) for this purpose?

Unfortunately, they're plain text comparers, no image comparers...

But thanks for the quick reply. ;)

Don't worry about it, Ian. :) I'm editing the OP, substituting "images" for "pictures" for greater clarity.

BTW, do the "Down Them All" plugin help you with the MP3s?

Long time ago I used Anti-Twin for this:http://www.anti-twin.com/. It's more to compare files in general, but has the option to compare also images. I guess it's not so powerful as a special image comparer, but it's freeware and you want maybe give it a try.

Edit. the option to comapre different folder only sounds tough, I can't remember Anti-Twin had that option, it's more likely it misses such a feature.

Damn! I'm very interested to compare between different directories, i.e. new images against those previously existing. And the "no internal comparison" option would help reduce the processing time...

thanks, i will look again :)
The best comparison tool I've encountered is "Beyond Compare". I just checked and it does have an image comparison mode, though I'm not sure if this can be combined with the folder compare mode.

You can download a free trial.

Downloading the trial to see what includes. Thanks, wpegg!
Is to compare images like this?

Stooner: Is to compare images like this?
Could be, if said program can find similar images for itself...

I tried it a while. It had interesting options, such as presenting up to 4 images simultaneously on the screen to compare the differences, but no other features I wanted.

Anyway, it was long ago and may have incorporated new functions...

Downloading and thanks, Stooner!

EDIT: Oh, my! Not updated since 2011-06-29...
