Thanks to the person who gave me the link for the Doom 3 codes and me finally setting up dual screens I've been having a fucking blast playing this gem of a game.

I've put the flashlight sticky mod on and configured the config doc so I can run it on 1920x1080.

But I wouldn't mind some nice updates of graphics... Tried to google for some, downloaded a couple but they fucked up my save file and made the graphics absolutely fucked up. So I ended up having to delete and integrity check the files so I could play it properly again.

So, O Wise GOGgers, I ask thee... What are some GOOD mods that actually WORK? FYI I'm using the steam version if that makes an ounce of difference. :)

Is there a simple mod installer or do I have to plonk them in the \base folder every time?

The only mod I have installed at the moment is the ambient light mod. Brightens the game play a bit.

I have looked at that site but most of the stuff in there is shit - the stuff that fucked up my save file were from that site.

What I'm really asking for is the best of the best mods. :) And I'd like a really good graphic update/mod/overhaul if there's one?

It's not unusual for a mod to not work with an existing save. If you remove the new mod your old save file may load as expected.

I usually start a new game when I install a mod as it can change the game in many ways and, as I said above, refuse to work with an existing save.

I liked that particular ambient light mod as it brightened the game just about right, IMHO. If you want to retain the scary then the flashlight is the way to go . . . =)

I use the Perfected Doom mod. It's kind of an all around mod: graphics, gameplay tweaks, some new gun skins and sounds. The graphic enhancements are fine, but what I like are the minor tweaks. Zombies now take a lot more punishment, but a single shot to the head will kill them. And the enemies don't burst into faerie dust when you kill them.

The texture pack doesn't seem to do anything except make the game look more terrible and the general 5.4 mod doesn't work at all - keeps failing to start up until I delete the pack4 file...???

It won't work properly - I get the white screen if I have the HDR enabled, and there's way too many options for me to fix it properly without fiddling for 100 years. With HDR off, basically I get a black screen with a few lines of colour, turning off another feature enables a bit more colour and so on and forth... :\

Sorry for what? :) It's cool man! I'm enjoying playing Doom 3 but wouldn't mind some graphical tweaks is all.

Currently drooling at Far Cry 2010 mod - cant fucking wait for th guy to finish it so I can play Far Cry in glorious Crysis-like resolution and beauty.
I just seem to have no luck with mods. :( The only one I've gotten working is the flashlight one and even then, I don't really know if I want it that much, takes away a fair bit of the scare-factor since I'm deaf and rely on visuals only....

Did you try the funny Lewdicrous mod for Doom3 yet?

Also for graphics/etc there's always the Ultimate Doom3 mod.
