doady: Which modules?
Here are some community favorites:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/neverwinter_nights_diamond/a_few_really_stupefyingly_good_modules

for a first glance of what you can do with the NWN toolset, try Darkness over Daggerford:

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=modules.detail&id=5122

for those of you not familiar with NWN, this custom content thing with NWN is not an amateurish buch of stuff some fans did to patch the game's shortcomings. The game was designed as a toolset from the start, and all this user made content is how the game was intended to be played and enjoyed. Otherwise, it's almost like buying the Dungeons & Dragons manual and throwing it away because the short demo adventure included in the book is silly.

FraterPerdurabo: Two words: Arcanum.
Tow better words Planescape:Torment.

And in general Co-op and RPGs do not mix, because ( for me) the appeal of RPGs is the narrative and the slow methodical approach. Co-op doesn't really fit with that.

Baldur's Gate is one of the few "proper" RPGs with Co-op. Never tryed it though.

Also, from a purely role-playing perspective, being the lone hero beats being a cog in the party, but that's just my opinion.
I've never tried co-op with an RPG. It just seems like if I played with anyone else, we'd be at odds over what to do.

It depends what you want to give a good recommendation.

If you want an excellent story in a unique atmosphere, try Planescape: Torment and Arcanum.

If you want a harsh, gritty RPG with good writing and dark humor, try Fallout 1 & 2. I prefer the first Fallout (sometimes I thought Fallout 2 was kind of goofy) but the second one looks much the same with some improved mechanics. They're both great.

If you want a mix of great combat and great story, try Baldur's Gate 2. I agree with others here. The first Baldur's Gate was good the first time, but now it's just kind of bleh for me.

Here's my personal choice. If you want excellent combat with good story, try the Icewind Dale games. Get a feel for general D&D rules if you don't already know them. You might get your ass handed to you a few times if you're not familiar with these kinds of games, but try again. If you like them and need more, move on to Temple of Elemental Evil and get the Circle of Eight mod.

tburger: Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Planscape Torment, Arcanum.

In that order.
Fixed. F2 is little user friendlier, it will be harder to stick with F1. Also chronological order.

For coop i quite liked Arcanum and Icewind dale. BGs are quite text heavy to play with more people. But multiplayer in Arcanum has realtime combat! Not turbased.
Co-op? Neverwinter Nights and it's user modules, or Baldur's Gate. We've also had some fun with Icewind Dale.

Indeed, if you want to play both Fallouts, you might as well start with the fist.

Unarmed combat characters are indeed fun to play ;)

I don't normally do such posts, but ALL the +1s go to you for that one.
1. Planescape Torment
2. Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale
For me:

1. Fallout 2
2. Planescape Torment
3. Fallout

This is only looking at classic and "true" CRPGs in every sense though. If you mean best RPG on gog that was on a computer then I would say Deus Ex.
Wow thanks guys.

If anyone suggests something, could they do a small writeup on why they like their favored RPG.. it would help decide for sure.

I definitely am looking up some of the RPG's now but I am a total noob when it comes to the old-school RPG.

No idea what to look for if you know what I mean.

You scare me, sir! Carry on!
I can't decide between Fallout 2 or Planescape: Torment. These are not just best CRPG's on GOG, they're best PC games ever!
