Dischord: You ought to go, a lot closer than me.

I'd need a military flight, as I won't put up with commercial aviation now, and even those would probably be ruined.

Ahhh, progress; and loss of the right to self-determination. Nice 2 c u, good job on gifting thread!
Why are you so much against commercial airlines? Sure their quality is going down and prices are going up, but so far it's not THAT bad is it?

Yes I am closer than you, but first of all I would need a visa. And applying for a visa "to have a drink with fellow GOGlodytes" does not sound like a valid reason, does it?

Yeah, nice to see you too.

I don't know.
I once went to Belarus for a picnic.
I was living in Poland (Bialystok) at the time.
We drove about an hour in, stopped in a forest for lunch & went home.
Just so I could say I'd been there!

The distinction between Belarus & Russia was lost on me back then....

Am cut of the old cloth, and won't pay to be inconvenienced by their shenanigans.

Every thing someone thinks up is a reason to inconvenience and overcharge you.. Let those that know no better try to keep their trough filled.

I wander how did you mange to cross the border that time. I presume that was done via some old forgotten backroad. Know any backroads in Heathrow? :P

Russia is that big one next to that small one (Belarus) with oil, gas and Putin. ;)

I'd never heard of Putin back in 1995.

Come to think of it, I'd never heard of Belarus either!
The polish family I was staying with told me that we were going to Russia!!

Then again, with further benefit of hindsight, that family was never particularly close to truthful, but that's another story entirely....

Well obviously we have different backgrounds. :) I remember how Transaero (now second biggest Russian airline company) bluntly refused to hire any ex-Aeroflot workers. They claimed they were "spoilt beyond salvation". :) Also I remember how I could never get any second soda drink on Aeroflot flights in USSR. Only now as an adult I realize the angry look on cabin crew faces probaly was caused by them trying to make their own "small business" of reselling "leftover" soda after the flights....

I also do agree we should try to support those who deserve it. That is why I always try to avoid Aeroflot like plague. But than military flights are not an option for me. :)

In 1995 he was still.... busy in St. Petersburg, indeed. We had Yeltsin at the time. And yeah that means you were there illegally. :)

So I'm seeing a bunch of people who hate taking the beautiful tube, and two people I'm definitely seeing tomorrow! Well, I know I haven't been the best faithful regular on the ole' forums, but I'm going to be at this pub tomorrow! So I'll see whoever feels like showing up, and it's going to be awesome! Cheers to FraterPerdurabo for organizing this last minute event, and we'll see who shows up!
Well, thanks for coming guys, was great! I apologise for the poor quality of the gas chambers though!
Ended up going to Notting Hill afterwards (more like Nothing Hill), gosh that place sucks!

e: oh and need not mention that I shamefully slept in for 2pm... I blame Civ III.

It will be fun if next time you make some photos with a sign of GOG or something similar ;) Maybe GOG T-shirts?

FraterPerdurabo: Ah, well anyway this is the 1st Annual GOG Bender (tm) so an earlier summons will be sent next year!
Make it on a Saturday too, so people will have time to come from further away.

I just saw this thread tonight unfortunately. Hope it was fun, atmosphere omitted.
Yeah unfortunately it was rather last minute because we forgot about the thing for a while and Friday afternoon was the only day that Pheonix could make it. The weekend would definitely have been a better option, but at least the area wasn't too busy!

Would anyone else be interested in potentially attending if the next one was organised with proper prior notice? In London, but obviously the northeners should organise something for themselves as well!
