Hear ye! hear ye!

By King's decree the mighty kingdom of GOG is seeking for brave and valiant adventurers who will help to retrieve the great lost treasures from Ubisoft. The path ahead of those who will undertake this task is strewn with dangerous enemies and dreadful places. Many heroes won't come back in one piece, but for those who will succeed a great prize awaits at the end.

The first quest to become a GOG Hero starts today! We need you to help us spread the word about our new, upcoming Ubisoft releases. To do that all you need is just retweet this message "Become a GOG Hero, help spread the word about our new Ubisoft releases, and win a free GOG game #gogcom http://t.co/MJWo2JG" before Sunday, March 13 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. By completing this quest you'll automatically enter for a drawing of 1 of 100 free game codes from GOG.

That's only the first quest in the upcoming weeks. If you don't want to participate this time, don't worry. Everyone who participates in at least one quest will become a GOG Hero and will be eligible to win great loot with the big, special prize at the very end.

You're asking what's the grand prize? What is the main thing that every hero needs? (No, unfortunately we won't be giving away a princesses’ hand in marriage, sorry.) We'll reward the greatest GOG hero with a real sword, a GOG branded shield, and $150 USD worth of GOG games!

Just as a heads up, your Twitter account must be public (or GOGcom must follow you) in order for your tweet to appear in the search.

Private accounts tweets don't appear in search for hashtags nor do their replies to other accounts that don't follow them (so for example if you tweet @GOGcom what's up, if GOGcom isn't following you then they won't see your tweet at all).
a real sword and shield? and 150 bucks? sweet, i'd almost join twitter just to have a tiny chance to win this awesome loot.

thelovebat: Except for the fact that most people who use the internet already have a facebook account for things like keeping in touch with friends, networking......so it wouldn't really be forcing it on anyone, maybe one or two people if anyone.
Well they may do in your social circle, but I can only think of one person I know in real life who uses facebook. It's certainly nowhere near as common as something like e-mail.

Personally I'd much rather sign up to twitter than facebook. They both have the disadvantage that you're more likely to be scammed (if you don't have an account you can safely ignore anything that appears to be from them) but at least twitter seems like it is just harmless, if slightly pointless, fun. They're only interested in what you explicitly tweet whereas facebook's entire purpose is to share your personal information *shudder*.

Skipping quests will reduce your chance for the game draws but will it reduce your chance of winning the grand prize as well?

Just tweet this:

Become a GOG Hero, help spread the word about our new Ubisoft releases, and win a free GOG game #gogcom http://t.co/MJWo2JG

They can search for #gogcom and if your account is public they'll see it. You can see it too, clicky.
Cool, though i miss contests that didn't involve twitters and facebooks, or, [as it usually is at least here in Poland] a cell phone.
Bring on some knowledge+sharp eye/mind competitions!:)
Or the random stuff.. ;)

Good luck to the participants;)

Huh, you're right, didn't see that at first. I was thinking more of Swordquest.

It's too bad that contest never finished.

Catshade: Wow. I've never seen so many old people concentrated in one place. Get on with the times, gramps!

StonerMk2: Im not old, only 24 lol, and i do actually have a Facebook because of family and friends. I just never saw a use for Twitter.
A 24 years old is old for a teenager. :P

Btw. I'm 37.

Done!

Well i never expected that GOG would make me (happily) create a twitter account :P
Please tell me that these new Ubisoft releases will include Imperialism and Imperialism II. Two of the greatest turn based economic strategy games ever!
dang not sure if i want to make my tweets public :X there are dedicated tweet leeching sites that store whatever you tweet ie the next time someone types your name in google or anything related to what you tweeted it will show up

Now that GOG is doing a grand Ubisoft promo, what titles is Ubi sitting on?

Ubi's own games:

HoMM 5 is a 2006 release, sold for $29.95 for the set on Steam, can go for $9.99 per game.
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (2004) and Two Thrones (2005): $9.99 per game on Steam, can happen here as well.
Assassin's Creed: 2007, sold for $19.95 - no way.
Pool of Radiance: RoMD (2001): were the bugs ever fixed? Unlikely.

So, what gems do they have in their catalogue?

Cook: We'll do a search for "#gogcom" or the whole tweet :)
What about private twitter accounts?

AndrewC: Just as a heads up, your Twitter account must be public (or GOGcom must follow you) in order for your tweet to appear in the search.
The quest announcement doesn't make mention of this.

Well, twittered it (despite my dislike for these 'social media' uselessness) and we'll see what happens :(

On a different note, just a bit more than three hours after the announcement and about 700 tweets. I didn't even think GoG would get that many hits per hour, left alone have that many twitter users. I'm amazed.

Edit in order to avoid a double post:
avatar
Toefur: Seriously, would you really rather do another god-aweful screenshot seach again?
I'd much rather do a screenshot search (though I haven't joined one, so I can't be too sure what it is), or a real quest like playing some (good old) games with/against GoG users (after all, that's what the whole page is about, games, isn't it?) than using a lame social service.

avatar
Ubivis: Don't tell them, bigger chance for us to win ;)
I doubt that's going to have a really big impact on your chances. 'We' are already at a rough one in seven odd and that's after three out of 72 hours.

Fujek: The quest announcement doesn't make mention of this.
They rarely do because (1) the default account is public and (2) you are informed of the things I said (reply display and hashtag/search visibility) when you switch it to protected.
