taczillabr: "We believe that developers should have the freedom to price their games how they like, without interference from the online stores that sell the games. Why? Because it allows us to promote our games more freely, as we are doing here! We rely on the ability to promote our games for our livelihood and control over pricing is an important tool for this purpose.
What utter bullcrap. Online stores don't make the prices. Publishers do.

Honestly, this site uses somewhat fishy marketing as it seems to be living of the half-truthes that live on the forums ...

Seems like it is partially live. A few of the games now can be bought with the discount, other not. Steam games are not affected yet, but I guess it will happen at the same time they usually do discounts (around 18.00 GMT)
Okay, on Steam, regional restrictions are still on... I wanted to buy DeathSpank the Baconing (so I have the full collection), but no "it is not available in your region"...

Anybody to gift it to me and I repay the generous helper by a gog game of the same price?

seems like steam discounts is not active yet...
Apparently the deals only apply to the US Android Market. The EU ones still have to pay the same old prices.

Oh well, move on, nothing to see here...
[EDIT]
I had a problem ordering from Introversion (ordered a physical bundle for $25, the invoice came for a digital download for $10), but their custserv is awesome (replied in less than 5 hours, but I was asleep, therefore posting this correction just now).

EDIT> oh my bad, you meant the discounts appear on the Indie sale webpage but not on Steam? If that waht you meant, yes, you're right, I've just checked...

Yeah, I wouldn't count on that happening till the normal daily change.
While I expected them to sell keys for Steam, but this put some perspective on said service.

It shows that publishers have influence over the prices of their products and it explains why COD for example never drops it's price and a sale is 33% off max.

I believe more and more that AAA game publishers are also at the root of the $=Euro problem as more and more indie devs avoid such pricing.

I never really had much doubt about this. It's pretty obvious when you see that dollar to euro pricing is pretty publisher specific. Same with the sales. Some, like Activision, are infamous for hardly ever having sales or always having it on low sales percentages.

If Steam had any direct say those games would probably gone on higher sales long ago.

What I do think they do is make it 1:1 Dollar to Euro unless otherwise specified by the publisher. There's plenty of cases where games are priced fairly Euro vs Dollar but others aren't. So if a publisher says to Steam 'Sell our game for $9.99" they'll probably put it up for €9.99 unless they are told to otherwise.

I do think Steam plays a big part in advising price though. They have tons of metrics and experience when it comes to sales so they probably make a lot of recommendations on what they think would be the best way to profit from a product.

Windows / Mac Games On Steam

Steam is very responsive to price change requests from developers, working with them and adjusting the pricing of games permanently or temporarily. Steam also encourages developers to conduct promotions outside of Steam by issuing digital coupons and/or coupon redemption codes, allowing developers to reach gamers directly through their own channels and on their own terms.
Guess there are some benefits to doing it that way
