monkeydelarge: This is Bear Simulator Kickstarter! Bear! A bear could rip off someone's head like a human being opening a bottle of mayo. A bear is one of the most powerful animals in this world. Of course, not even close to being as dangerous as man but still.. A bear's life is also full of action considering a bear needs to eat meat and can't go to a nearby super market to get some meat... They could rename the game to Giant Monster Simulator and they wouldn't be deceiving people. There is a reason, there is pepper spray and there is bear spray...

What about rock simulator? You begin as hot lava and within several millions years you become a dust. An as paid DLC you can buy pulgin for changing speed of game.^^

I'd play it if it's similar to Wolf or Lion. I doubt I'd back it though. From what little I've seen, it looks like it's meant to be a humorous melee game playing a bear like a human instead of being educational. One thing I hate is people giving animals human characteristics.

In the risks section, they talk a bit about being on other distribution channels. It seems the guy is open about DRM-free channels (Humble Store, GOG.com...). Maybe someone could ask in the comments...

I never heard of "Wolf" or "Lion" - are these existing games, and would they fit my request for realistic, educational, immersive, interactive ways of simulating animal life? If so, do you know where I can find them?

Edit: Ah, I think I found their entries at Mobygames: Wolf, and Lion.

Fascinating. Never knew these existed. Will have to try to grab a working copy somewhere. :)

chevkoch: I'm late to the party and didn't even know there's a playable demo. So I wasn't going by facts, really ;) The whole idea of a goat sim just sounds outrageously prankish. Reminds me of Kaurismäki's Zombie and the Ghost Train, of a band everyone is aware of, but noone has ever seen them play.
The thing is, they didn't plan to make it into an actual game. They needed to test their new physics engine, and they made a small pseudo-game featuring a goat in order to do so (and to have a good laugh, developers need to have fun too). They posted a YouTube video of the end result, explicitly stating that this was not a game in development, just a test of their engine, and the internet went berserk and flat-out demanded that they make it into an actual game. Seeing the enormous response the video got, they decided to go ahead and do it.

That was the sequence of events, to the best of my knowledge. If I'm wrong about some of it, someone feel free to correct me.

I'm not backing, but it looks fun.

I once saw a brown bear while driving on a remote forest road. I stopped my car and watched as the bear disappeared deeper into the forest. It didn't seem to be at all interested in me, but I was very glad that I was sitting safely inside my car!

Of course I didn't have a camera with me and it was before the age of current high tech phones, so I was left with no evidence of the encounter. But it was cool!
