I'm voting for Desura - it's an excellent service, and this particular game is DRM-free there.
Beamdog is a sh*tload of DRM, also some of the games I tried to run did not work because of DRM messup.

Desura +1000
I would choose Desura. The only problem I had with it, is its client... it constantly crashed a lot, specially during downloading or installing a game, having to clean, re-download and re-install many games from the start. It excedeed my patience so many times that I decided to uninstall that **** and I swore to never use it again. The good thing is you're not forced to use it in -I think- over 90% of the Desura games. At least, I can confirm that in Serious Sam 2 is obligatory to use that client.

What games did Beamdog pull from your library?
Desura for me as well, although for me it's a slight notch below GOG and DotEmu. Desura games are not guaranteed to be DRM-free - there are a few that simply give you a Steam key and tell you to bog off, others like Depth Hunter that have their own system of product activation.

Desura has no intrinsic DRM like Steam's CEG though, so publishers are required to operate their own DRM servers, which a lot of them don't, because it simply isn't worth the hassle, and the Desura community tends to react fairly rabidly to games that have DRM anyway.

Desura has all the benefits of Steam - auto-patching, automated download/install processes - and addresses many of the disadvantages. Alongside the Steam-style downloads and installs, you can also download the game installer directly from the website.

I could have also sworn that you could change the installed version of a game, but apparently not.
I always forget to mention DotEmu. Too much overlap with GOG and not nearly as many great titles, and none of the extras and features, but they make up for it by being the best damn place to buy Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. :P

Actually, SS2 is among the very small number of games on Desura that are just a Steam key so the Desura client definitely isn't required for them (but the Steam client is).

LOL, you're right! :P
I own that game, but I haven't played it (and installed it) yet... It was part of a bundle, but I'm not so interested in playing it.

EDIT:
Actually, this is the message when I tried to install the game from them:
"You need Desura to play Serious Sam 2 (view standalone downloads)."

And if I click on "standalone downloads":
"Desura is a digital distribution app which allows you to install and play games with one click. Serious Sam 2 will be available to download soon on Desura.
Contact us, if you would like us to prioritize adding a standalone download for this game, that doesn't require the Desura app to install."

So yeah... :P

That's just there because that's the message they show when there isn't a standalone download. You definitely don't need Desura installed to install SS2, just go here: https://secure.desura.com/cart/cdkeys

Click request key for SS2, put key into Steam.
Desura is f**king awesome; i know them when HIB 1,2 give me a Desura key for their bundle. 99% of my Desura backlog is from various indie bundles. The only game i buy directly from them is ArmA 1; no any complaints.
And they link to moddb.com too; choose mod and Desura take care the rest. Cons for me: You can't install 2 or more mods of 1 single game at the same time; if you run a mod, Desura automatically uninstall the others (still keep installers) to make sure there is no conflict when both of them use same core game. And of course, not all mods from moddb supported by Desura

For now. It's only a matter of time before GOG has it.

Hopefully they manage to get the soundtrack as well... (I know, I know, licensing issues, etc., etc. But one can always hope!)
Desura is my distributor of choice right after GOG. All of the games I have on there have standalone downloads for the installers too.

I have yet to hear anything good about Beamdog.

Personally, I've not used Beamdog, but I haven't heard anything good about them either. In fact, the whispers on the interwebs are that Beamdog is by far one of the worst digital distributors out there. Glitchy, faulty DRM, unprofessional and incompetent support, poor payments handling, games disappearing from accounts...
