I seem to miss all the rudeness that goes on here. What happened? Do I have to beat up somebody?

*rolls up sleeves* You asked for it.
Compared to the likes of the Steam forums or GameFAQs, this community is still top rate.

True, but that bar is very low.
This IS one of the classiest, nicest forums around. Right now there's a religion thread going on that anywhere else would have become a horrible flamewar by now.

It is now, yes. But there used to be a time when the GameFAQs community used to be on par with this one. Steam though? I think it's always been that seething cess pool of fan boy scum ¬_¬.

See, if any one from Steam came here and read that he wouldn't see this place as a nice one to be in; the whole be nice thing goes either way.
If you want respect then respect me in return. As for lashing out, it's common courtesy to know the rules of the place you're in, rules which can be found in our FAQ; you don't bother to read that, I won't bother to reply nicely.

Well I'm hardly going to lie about the state of something. Besides, I came here from the Steam forums (that being the place where I first heard about GOG) and I certainly don't take such truthful comments on the state of the Steam forums as something to feel offended by.

You won't, I won't, but someone else might; heck, even someone who doesn't know the crap that goes on on those forums might start having a bad opinion of this place based on statements like that, no matter how true or false.
You know, some tact goes a long way ;)

So basically, we'd all end up treading on egg shells. Can't discuss religion, it might offend someone. Can't discuss X game or Y system, it might offend someone. Can't discuss the weather, it might offend someone. And that too, would ruin the point of the community.
It's quite easy to be nice to new comers, but that doesn't mean you should avoid discussing something or giving your honest opinion on something just because someone thinks it might offend someone else.
Basically state your case and don't be a twat when people disagree. Being "right" on the internet isn't exactly the be all and end all of human endeavour after all, if it was then there'd be achievements for it...
Nothing shoud be barred from discussion or taking the piss, silencing speech is the first step towards silencing thought which will put us right back in the dark ages. Next thing you know you'll start seeing countries treating adults like children, banning entertainment and censoring the interne... hang on...

He worded it really awkwardly, but he has a point. These forums are a den of GoG-fanboys. And anyone who hangs out at the Steam boards (or tries to maintain some degree of objectiveness) will think we are all a bunch of elitest pricks.
Maybe it is a "truth" or a "fact", but just think before typing. Saying "At least we don't argue about Modern Warfare 2 versus Half-Life 2" or whatever people complain about is one thing. Saying things like "This retard is a waste of life because he has an opinion I don't like. ANd of course he is a Steam-using <INSERT ETHNIC SLUR OF YOUR CHOICE>" is NOT appropriate.
It's probably just the DRM posts we all hate.
You get as many people defending steam here as you get attacking it. Also an equal number of people who just use it because and don't really have a passionate opinion one way or the other
Being nice is for people who can't role-play the right way!
No, I love everything. =)
