Aliasalpha: There's just something about jolie's face that freaks me out, its just wrong on some subconscious level, I suspect she might be a vampire or an android

I'll agree with the Bayonetta comments, but Jolie had me at a pout.
I'll get around to downloading Bayonetta after my internet cap ticks over. I doubt it'll will be worth 64kb/s for the next few days.
I agree with Weclock. Whatever her name is does have a very nice (albeit made of pixels) full figured body that is most attractive. Also if you come in with the right mindset the game is plenty enjoyable, even if a tad mindless.
I'm not complaining because she's not a waif thin stick figure (I rather dislike those), I'm complaining because she creeps me out on some subconscious level I can't describe
Just watched the trailer - that is the most disturbing character I have ever seen in my entire life. And I have played the Katamari games.
never in my life have i read an opinion that was so far from my own experience. it seemed like every comment was being cynical almost to the point of you wanting to hate the game. i found the demo very good. the character is sexy. nice artistic touches (you thought what the hell is the point fo having butterfly wings when u can only use em for a quick boost, i thought "thats an interesting artistic touch and much more original than a standard "doube jump animation") interesting musical choice. truly awesome fluid animations all around which can only come from a japanese game. like you, i did sort of lol at the what you call "stripper walk", but that is totally the point. its like a quentin tarantino movie.
only thing that bothered me, just as it did with dmc4 are those arena type battles. why not just keep the world open and let me fight on my own terms? would make it much better.
also im the sort of gamer that hates to memorize combos and try to pull them off. that annoys me to no end. i like button mashing and watching cool moves performed automatically (i.e. like in the good old days of double dragon, streets of rage etc for the genesis) so the "easy" difficulty is perfect for me, normal is already too complicated for me, and it sounds like "hard" is something for you
overall, i may get it if nothing else good comes out around that time.

Michagogi23: the character is sexy

heh, that's probably why one loves and one hates it, since the game is built around the character :D

its true that i would enjoy the game less if you were playing a fat hairy male, or an old witch hag with warts on her nose (actually that may be cool in a sort of satirical sense).
however, i dont think you can argue that the game has bad gameplay. its essentially dmc with a female char and dmc is popular. but i think every time a game has a good looking character, people will make the old "sex sells" argument. there are plenty of games with barely dressed female characters and they dont sell well because the gameplay sucks (if that were the case i'd own all those beach volley ball games, or the blood rayne games).
this game has both aspects, and i dont think good looking characters ever hurt a game. people (maybe men more than women :D ) have always enjoyed looking at barely dressed women, be it neanderthal art (you know those things with the huge breasts), greek sculptures, renaissance art, or now video games. i dont think it lessens their impact

Michagogi23: ..the blood rayne games

Waait a minute, I DO own both Blood Rayne games, are ho... Ooooh, I can see where you were heading with that post. Sorry, got kinda lost when thinking about those sharp heels used as a weapon.
Seriously now, Bayonetta IS actually trying to make main character one if it's selling points and I just don't find her neither attractive, nor badass (that actually is why I have played DMC mostly).
.. back to maths once again ..
Haven't played this, but on the topic of the Bloodraynes:
The first one was just a game with a semi-sexualized main character. Pretty much everything does that. It wasn't until the second one (and the issue of Playboy...) that it became about Rayne being the selling point (as opposed to killing stuff).
Characters have to shout out the names of their move. It's a universal law.
Ever since someone pointed out her resemblance to sarah palin, any possible sexiness has been replaced with freaked-out feelings and the need to wash.
I really don't understand the hate for this game. It's the same guy who did DMC, and he basically said this was what he wanted to do from the start. Full-blown, over-the-top, sexy climax action.
It's silly, deal with it. That's the whole effin' point.
Bayonetta is a parody, a parody of immense proportions. (Literally.)
And the music is awesome, beats any regular orchestral epic movie/game music any day.
As long as we're not in uncanny valley territory it's all good. The Lara Croft in the recent TRs is kinda sexy, but I play them for the gameplay. I care little about Bayonetta because I'm not attracted to the Devil May Cry gameplay it looks like.

The problem comes from when a parody becomes that which it is parodizing.
For a perfect example, watch the first Starship Troopers movie (with NPH as a nazi!). It tried to make a parody/satire of all the various war movies that came out around WWII (like the book did), but it went too far and became an homage to them. It was intended to be a clever jab at action movies and the like, and instead just became a really awesome movie about heroic marines blowing stuff up :p
I am not a big fan of the DMC-style gameplay (enjoyed the first one, but not something I would want to keep playing) so this isn't for me, but from all the trailers I can see why people are complaining. It just seems like a joke taken so far that the funny went bye bye.

I'm not a fan of it either, I only ever played DMC 4 and I fucking hate that pos.
But I liked the Bayonetta demo - I don't really like the gameplay that much, it's alright. Seeing the different moves is pretty cool.
But I like the style of the game, creating something unrealistic because you can is great.
I really am very tired of these games that try to go for the ultra realistic and just end up failing.
this medium is a fantastic medium because you don't have to try very hard to come up with something that is absolutely different from anything you've ever seen in real life and without looking like it's something you pasted together in your basement.

...So, it got better?
