How does matchmaking work on the Origin version? I still have a retail copy, and I've heard a lot of sketchy things about the Origin client.

Neobr10: How is EA a major a-hole for releasing a game for free?
Dude, because it is EA.

Do I need to spell it out for you E-A.

They are like, evil, dude ...
If I cared about this game, and I don't, I would BUY it before getting it free on Origin.

timppu: Does the game have a meaningful single-player campaign? I am not interested in offline bot deathmatch either.
avatar
keeveek: No. Campaign is just multiplayer maps with bots. The good thing is, you may play with 64 bots, unlike in Battlefield 2, when you can play only with 16 -.-
Is there any mods that allows 64 bots?

Elmofongo: Is there any mods that allows 64 bots?
Yeah, you can do that, but you need a real strong PC to handle 64 bots in Battlefield 2. Also, in SP you may play only the smallest maps, I don't know if mods handle that also.

64 bots on smallest maps would be a nightmare.

My PC can play Battlefield 3 at max settings so I don't think thats a problem.

If only it was that easy to forget about Westwood, Bullfrog, and all the other studios EA bought to steal the IP and fire all the devs, to prevent independent competitors from making more sales than them... just saying.

Just because a bunch of kids started hating on EA for BF3 or Mass Effect 3 doesn't mean there is no legitimate criticism of that publisher.

You and I perfectly know EA Spouse (wikipedia article) is just the tip of the iceberg and how it didn't changed anything in the long term.

Sure, it's funny to make fun of 16 years old realizing how the video game industry treat them, but don't cross the line and start labelling everything said about EA as "fanboy/haters" for your own personal amusement, at least for the devs crunching their life out at EA, they deserve better.

...

Regarding the BF1942 give-away, it's not really "generous" of them: people stopped buying it several years ago. It is a good, smart move though.

Now we need to know if we can mod it, because it seems the Origin BF1924 is not compatible with the retail BF1942 (they're using a different version). Mods like the Battlefield High Definition one are really improving the game experience.

So you shouldn't have bigger problems, but BF2 wasn't optimized for 64 bots, so it may be more CPU consuming than you think.

Evil A-holes. I guess.

Even bot mode is fun since the flight mechanic is dirt simple to pick up and enjoy, and I find the game to still be fairly fun on the infantry-centric maps; not so great on the really large maps like El Alamein. Be sure to turn up the AI CPU time, and also unbalance the teams to put you at a team-size disadvantage.
Here is a nice guide in reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/classicbattlefield/comments/12p5uu/bf1942_origin_release_guide/

The best map ever was Monte Cassino, but it's featured in Rome expansion, sadly.

Talk about double standards...

Hoffman's actions, in part, led to the filing of three class action lawsuits against Electronic Arts and some changes throughout the industry at large, such as reclassification of entry-level artists as hourly employees, thus making them eligible for overtime under California law.

EA certainly isn't a philanthropic organisation. But when it comes towards video game publishing they are amongst the better once. Currently, they are maybe the best, imo. (A quick look on GOG exemplifies this).

And the whole "They killed Blizzard/Bullforg etc..." well, let's just say there are always two sides to a story. Especially with Origin it is clear that it was Lord British who had a much bigger hand in its demise than EA.
Trying to remember my favorites...

I really like most of the original maps, but I get the most enjoyment out of Stalingrad, Kursk, Wake, Tobruk (also good with bots since it's large but with long fields of fire), Iwo Jima, and Market Garden (engineer heaven, IMO). Berlin is fun until the Allies' main spawn point gets spammed.

The only problem I have with Monte Cassino is that you're boned on Allies if your teammates are knotheads. Some maps one can do really well as a 'lone wolf' but this isn't one of them unless you can manage to sneak into the castle by the back way. But yeah, this is a great one for bot play since the AI has much less to "think" about and makes for a better challenge.

As far as the expansions go, I get the most fun out of flying in Baytown. It was hard to get into Secret Weapons, tho.

That was a good one. I like that one and the french army.

Now we need EA to re-release the expansions but I don't think they will be popular, they werent that popular back when they were first released.

THIS. EA wouldn't buy them, if they weren't on sale before.

Westwood studios was broke long before EA, they sold themselves to Virgin, and Virgin sold them for pocket money to EA.

And SOMEHOW, it's still EA who is to blame. My heads explodes when I try to make a logical connection here.
