Thanks, but it's still not working.
Hard to believe this came out in 2002. Ten years already.

Funny how they put the best map (Wake Island) in the demo. Me and my brother took turns playing that demo to death. Awesome multiplayer experience.

Got the game and already question:

How the fuck do you open the door of this boat?

IIRC its the up and down arrows.

Also, I'm DLing this now. It's awesome we got MOHAA released on GOG and BF1942 for free. It's like its 2002 all over again. Shame the expansions arn't included but hardly anyone played them anyways.

OMG nostalgia!!! Just played the operation market garden map. I hopped in a Mustang and was gunning people down. I even flew so low I killed someone with my plane :D and I managed to land it and repair and fly off again. Got a tank or a car with some bombs. I'm never good at dropping bombs. Good to see there are still Aussie servers with people in.

And you know something the biggest maps in this game is bigger than any map in Battlefield 3's Bandar Desert which they claim was the biggest map in Battlefield history!
Something I noticed on the http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield-1942 website:

Q: Can I play online against players who have the original disc-based version?

A: Unfortunately, no. This Origin digital download version can only be played against other players who are using the same version. But since it’s free for everyone, everyone can download their own copy of the game. This version of the game will only show applicable (new) servers in the server browser.

So I guess that means people will have to transfer over to Origin if they want to play with all the new players in MP. Take that as you will.

I wish that GOG will put it here too, or EA will be a major a-hole as usual and will out exclusively on their bugged Origin platform.
How is EA a major a-hole for releasing a game for free? They are releasing it for free already, chill out, let EA at least choose the platform. This s probably a move to get more people to register into Origin. This isn't bad at all, Steam does the same thing, and so does GOG by gving a few free games for every new account.

And Origin is not as bad as all the haters say. The client works better than Steam, actually.

I'm also wondering if the servers for the original BF1942 will die now. I hope not. I still have the original copy and the Secret Weapons expansion. Might install them one day to see if it's still alive.

Anyone tried running any of the major mods on here, or other maps?
I can't get it to go widescreen with that config edit. If anyone else got it working let me know. But I did force anti-aliasing,anisotropic filtering and Vsync through my graphics card which I recommend everyone else do the same if you haven't already, unless you like jagged edges and blurriness :P
Does the game have a meaningful single-player campaign? I am not interested in offline bot deathmatch either.

No it doesn't. But online is working to me.

No. Campaign is just multiplayer maps with bots. The good thing is, you may play with 64 bots, unlike in Battlefield 2, when you can play only with 16 -.-

Thanks, I think I'll pass it then for now (unless someone feels it is the greatest online FPS ever made etc.). Maybe I'll be arsed to create an Origin account and try it out at some point. After all I'll probably have to do that at some point anyway, just for Mass Effect trilogy if nothing else.
