retro_gamer: They messed up a bit, but man, for the first time I see a free commercial game on ORIGIN that isn't a US only PROMO. And I like it. ^^
Good point. The thought that immediately crossed my mind was "I hope that's not yet another US-only deal". Well... thank you, EA.

On a somewhat related note, now is the perfect opportunity for GOG to release Battlefield's "unofficial, spiritual" predecessor: Codename Eagle. Such an underappreciated gem.

Well, looks like this a case of you get what you pay for. Apparently, multiplayer is completely out with this version as I get a "invalid cd key" message for every server I try to join. Singleplayer against bots isn't all that grand.

I just played multiplayer and it worked fine for me. My only problem is being stuck in 800x600 resolution. I asked someone on a multiplayer server but all I got was some smartass explaining how I should understand that this game came out before widescreen.

Hey better bots than playing a linear graphics demo rail shooter that was Battlefield 3. And its free.

Look ma', a company is bad because it offers one of their products for free.

Now I really wish that EA never considers GOG as a platform for this game, if people like you want the game here.

Thanks!

Btw. it lacks expansions? I have them on a CD, so it doesn't really matter to me, but it would be good to have anthology on Origin.

|: I don't want widescreen, all I want is a nice 1154x864 like I do with all my games. I have one of those big heavy old 17" monitors

Not a loss for me, never liked the Secret Strange Weapons concept.

If you look better, you will see that there is way yo set custom resolution also described there.
Battlefield 1942 does not have native widescreen support. To use custom resolutions, navigate to Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Custom and open the file Video.con in Wordpad. The following line is the one we are interested in:
game.setGameDisplayMode 1440 900 32 60
The first number is the width and the second is the height. Change these values to the resolution you want. In this example, the game would run at a resolution of 1440x900.

I liked it very much. Especially, that many of the weapons used there were used at least once on an actual battlefield.

Also, the Rome expansion was OK too.

But hardly anybody played it online anyway, so...
