AlphaMonkey: You've mentioned the NJ thing before. I have to ask, where and when, if you don't mind answering. I'm just curious because I'm from Jersey City, NJ, and I was in late grammar school, early high school when this series was originally airing. I watched it practically religiously, and I can't recall -anyone- giving me any grief about it. It was, and still -is- a terrific show, and the various spinoffs that have been done in the same animated universe have pretty much all been spectacular.

I lived in Oceanport. Most of what I remember about the location is that I was 15 minutes away from the ocean, and an hour away from New York. I think I was close to Long Branch and Red Bank, but I could be mistaken. Most people who were in my class moved on to Shore Regional for their high school, which is notorious for its' gang activities. Fortunately, I moved just in time so I wouldn't have to experience any of that nonsense.
Batman TAS was (and still is) graphically beautiful, thanks to the awesome design by Bruce Timm.
Just the opening (in the first seasons) is a piece of art. It's incredibly well done.
I agree about Clayface episodes, so good. Some scenes in it are pretty hard for a "kid" show, not sure it could be made nowadays.

If they can make "kid" shows like Degrassi, where everyone is either caught cheating on each other or trying to kill because they were cheated on, they can certainly make Batman.

Degrassi is more "teen" show imo, and it's also a canadian show, not american.
I think the canadians are trying to shift the blame down south
Batman the animated series was beyond epic, dark, moody, gritty and almost realistic, well as realistic as a cartoon show about a rich smart man dress up as a bat could be, so glad that the voice cast from the show reprises their roles for arkham asylum as soon as I learned about that, it became a must purchase for me.
Too many otherwise sensible people raving about this show for me to ignore it. Shall have to have a look for the first series if I can find it cheap
The original series was amazing, and when they tossed robin (as a man) in it still worked. then they made robin the boy and the the show tanked.
Batman beyond is also extremely good. It takes up where Batman the animated series lets off and has Bruce in the future battling a few of his old nemeses. But its just done so well...

Well, part of the problem with the "second" Robin was that they tried to do a little too much with the character.
See, the original Robin, was... just that. The original Robin. Dick Grayson was true to form. The second Robin, while they called him Tim Drake, was in reality a weird, jumbled mishmash of the comics second and third Robins. He shared the third (and current) Robin's name, but his personality and background were more the second Robin's, i.e. Jason Todd's.
And seeing as how Jason was literally killed off by fan decree... (DC actually set up a hotline where people could call in and vote whether or not they wanted Jason to bite the dust, and apparently, people voted to off the kid.) You can probably imagine why he didn't turn out to be as great a character in the show, either.
I wouldn't say it "tanked," necessarily, but I wasn't too big a fan of DCAU's Tim. But Dick -was- getting a little too old for the role, and I suppose they did want to do things with the Nightwing character... which was a good choice, if you ask me.

I loved the animated series as well, but the voice talent alone is not enough. Batman Vengeance (which was utter crap) taught me that. Fortunately, Arkham Asylum seems like a solid game all around.
Mark Hamill will forver and always be the Joker in my head... he IS the clown prince of Gotham... And Kevin Conroy THE one and only Dark Knight....

The whole "Don't let anyone else play Joker after Dark Knight" argument made sense to me until I saw the trailer for Batman: Arkham Asylum and thought to myself, "You know, I'm not used to hearing someone other than Heath Ledger as the Joker, but this person seems to nail what they're going for spot-on". Then I saw it was Mark Hamill and did a double-take. It's amazing how he can vary his voice. After playing Batman: Arkham Asylum and watching a few episodes of TAS, I can easily say he's one of the best Jokers. I'd tie his performance with Ledger's, with Caesar Romero in 3rd place (Sorry, Jack Nicholson, but Caesar's facial hair edges you out of this one). Also, they're the only four Jokers I've ever seen/heard, so I'm not sure about how anyone else would do it.

Best news I have heard all year.
Oh, sweet baby Jesus, could the DiDidiot actually be doing something -right- for a change? I almost can't believe it.
